R2,636 Discovery Miles 26 360 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Islamic Bioethics presents a wide variety of perspectives and debates on how Islamic societies deal with the ethical dilemmas raised by biomedicine and new technologies. The book is a 'constructive dialogue' between contributors selected from a multidisciplinary group of Muslim and non-Muslim scholars from different Islamic countries. The 11 chapters illuminate the diversity and complexity of the issues discussed in Islamic bioethics and pave the way to a better understanding of Islamic bioethics and dialogue in the global bioethics community. The chapters take both theoretical and practical approaches to the topic, and each covers an emerging issue in Islamic bioethics. This book will be useful for academics and professional institutions in both Islamic and non-Islamic countries, and will be instrumental in providing researchers, scholars, students, policymakers and medical professionals with access to the latest issues and debates related to Islamic bioethics.Contributors include: Tariq Ramadan, Abdallah Daar, Ali Albar, Mohsin Ebrahim, Baharouddin Azizan Alastair Campbel, Bagher Larijani, Carol Taylor, Gamal Serour, James Rusthoven, Ilhan Ilkilic, Ingrid Mattson, Hassan Chamsi-Pasha, Jonathan Crane, Hakan Ertin, Mehunisha Suleman.

Medical Futility: A Cross-national Study (Hardcover, New): Alireza Bagheri Medical Futility: A Cross-national Study (Hardcover, New)
Alireza Bagheri
R3,084 Discovery Miles 30 840 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Medical futility is a controversial issue not only in its definition but also in its application. There are few books on the subject, and those in existence mostly focus on the situation in the United States. This title, however, provides extensive international perspectives on medical futility. This book will benefit healthcare professionals as well as health policy makers around the world. It allows them to see how different countries approach the issue of medical futility and their experiences in dealing with this issue. The complexity of the issue, and in particular how some countries innovatively address it in an ethically sound manner, is clearly presented.

Abortion - Global Positions and Practices, Religious and Legal Perspectives (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2021): Alireza Bagheri Abortion - Global Positions and Practices, Religious and Legal Perspectives (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2021)
Alireza Bagheri
R4,594 Discovery Miles 45 940 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Rather than providing a global solution to the problem of abortion -to abort or not to abort-this volume sheds light on different but equally critical dimensions of abortion in global debate and practice. The aim is to elaborate on different value systems and policies in order to empower individuals to make well-informed decisions about abortion guided by moral reflection. The twenty one chapters of this volume are written by distinguished scholars in each of the religious and non-religious schools of thought, offering an exhaustive survey of the differing religious and legal views on abortion within the international community. The contributors present authoritative discussions in favor of or against abortion based on their perspectives and practices. As a result, the content of this book provides a foundational platform for better understanding, meaningful dialogue, and tolerance on a social issue which has divided individuals, philosophers, theologians, policy makers, and legislators within and across societies for centuries.

Alireza Bagheri, Jonathan D Moreno, Stefano Semplici
R1,580 Discovery Miles 15 800 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The UNESCO International Bioethics Committee is an international body that sets standards in the field of bioethics. This collection represents the contributions of the IBC to global bioethics. The IBC is a body of 36 independent experts that follows progress in the life sciences and its applications in order to ensure respect for human dignity and freedom. Currently, some of the topics of the IBC contributions have been discussed in the bioethics literature, mostly journal articles. However, this is a unique contribution by the scholars who developed these universal declarations and reports. The contributors have not only provided a scholarly up to date discussion of their research topics, but as members of the IBC they have also discussed specific practical challenges in the development of such international documents. This book will be suited to academics within bioethics, health care policy and international law.

Drawing Planar Graphs inside Simple Polygons (Paperback): Alireza Bagheri, Mohammadreza Razzazi Drawing Planar Graphs inside Simple Polygons (Paperback)
Alireza Bagheri, Mohammadreza Razzazi
R1,808 Discovery Miles 18 080 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Graphs are known structures with many applications in various fields including computer science and information visualization. Drawing graphs makes understanding the meaning of graphs easy by geometrically representation of them. Many graph drawing algorithms have been presented in the literature. Most of them draw graphs on an unbounded surface. However, there are applications in which it is required to draw graphs on a prescribed size area. For example, consider a VLSI circuit which should be designed on a U-shaped PCB with prescribed size, or consider a software in which one would like to show a graph on a prescribed size area. In this book, we examine the complexity of this problem, and introduce new algorithms for drawing planar graphs on 2D surfaces which are bounded by simple polygons. The content of this book is suitable for use in advanced undergraduate and graduate level courses on algorithms, graph drawing, information visualization and computational geometry. The book will also serve as a useful reference for researchers and software developers in the field of graph drawing, information visualization, VLSI design and CAD.
