This is the b/w paperback version of "The Standard Guide to Grading
British Coins" - the 'Where's wear' of British numismatics! The
first book of its kind. A detailed photographic and descriptive
record of the grades of all British modern milled pre-decimal coins
(1797 to 1970). The grade of a coin dictates it's value. The age,
type or specific date are all of less importance than the
condition. But what is Fine, VF, EF or Uncirculated? If you are new
to coin collecting or specialise in different coin types, how can
you say without doubt that a coin is a certain grade? Until now you
could only guess. Now, at least you can make a very educated guess
based on the images shown in "The Standard Guide to Grading British
Coins". The photos of every obverse and reverse type are
illustrated at 2x or greater magnification and the text describes
where to look for the wear first. An invaluable guide to anyone who
collects coins, especially at the moment, with huge amounts of
overgraded coins being offered on the internet.
How can we get from where we are to where we want to be? Metaphors
for Change attempts to answer this question and provide a roadmap
for sustainability by bringing together the thoughts of a unique
collection of leading change agents from business, government and
academia. Environmental questions have previously been dealt with
metaphorically, by catastrophism or manicheism (zero growth;
Malthusianism, Deep Ecology; "man is the enemy"; less is more).
These metaphors have had limited impact because they have failed to
connect with the mainstream of cultural, political, and business
ideas. This book examines a number of new metaphors - and related
partnerships, tools and action - which appear to have greater
possibilities for the world in which we now live. The editors argue
that Metaphors for Change can deliver to the public and to
decision-makers new perceptions ("structured knowledge") that can
help interpret the past and the present, and help us forge the
future. The wider the gap between the "now" and the "necessary",
the stronger the bridging perceptions have to be in order to break
through barriers of fear and conservatism. Some of the concepts
considered are: sustainable development; the polluter pays
principle; the precautionary principle; eco-efficiency;
eco-effectiveness; life-cycle assessment; design for the
environment; eco-services; dematerialization; industrial symbiosis;
industrial ecology; and zero emissions. There are of course other
useful metaphors on the horizon, some of them included in this
book. Including key contributions from the ground-breaking
conferences ECO 97 and ECO 99, along with other specially
commissioned and reprinted pieces, Metaphors for Change provides a
treasure chest of new ideas, innovations and action. Accessible and
forward-thinking, it will prove indispensable both as a student
learning tool and as a panoramic overview of the sustainability
metaphors key thinkers believe we should be putting into practice.

Li He (790-816) holds a place in China's poetic history somewhat
outside the mainstream, but in every generation of readers there
have been those who have found his intense and often cryptic
lyrical visions irresistibly fascinating and utterly without
parallel. He is renowned particularly for his lyrical reimaginings
of song traditions from the ancient past, and his premature death,
along with the otherworldly quality of many of his works, led later
readers to view him as the emblematic cursed poet, whose
fascination with ancient history, with ghosts, and with celestial
and demonic beings seemed to presage the brevity of his own
existence. Li He's style and diction are often idiosyncratic and
even hermetic, and his work presents daunting challenges to readers
wishing to follow the flights of his imagination, or simply to
construe the basic sense of his language. This volume presents
close translations of all of Li He's poetry, in facing-page format
with the original texts, with explanatory notes on literary and
historical references and difficult points of interpretation, along
with endnotes briefly discussing textual variants and other
technical matters. Taken together, these features will be a welcome
aid to readers wishing to explore Li He's poetic worlds first-hand.
There are many books on aspects of plant invasions, but none that
focus on the key role of species interactions in mediating
invasions. This book reviews exciting new findings and explores how
new methods and tools are shedding new light on crucial processes
in plant invasions. In 23 chapters, with contributions from 51
authors, the book addresses: · the main theories and hypotheses in
plant invasion ecology that invoke species interactions; · plant
invasions that are facilitated by, or benefit from, by mutualistic
interactions and release from enemies; · antagonistic interactions
that prevent or hinder plant invasions; · impacts of plant
invasions on native species interactions and ecosystem functioning;
· the interaction-network approach to understanding plant
invasions; · the importance of considering species interactions in
managing plant invasions
Drawing upon the pioneering work of the British theologian David
Brown who argues for a non-static, `moving text' that reaches
beyond the biblical canon, this volume brings together twelve
interdisciplinary essays, as well as a response from Brown. With
essays ranging from New Testament textual criticism to the fiction
of David Foster Wallace, The Moving Text provides an introduction
to Brown and the Bible that will be of interest to undergraduate
and postgraduate students, as well as specialists in a wide range
of fields. Contributions include: Ian Boxall (The Catholic
University of America) "From the Magi to Pilate's Wife: David
Brown, Tradition and the Reception of Matthew's Text," Robert
MacSwain (The University of the South) "David Brown and Eleonore
Stump on Biblical Interpretation," Aaron Rosen (Rocky Mountain
College) "Revisions of Sacrifice: Abraham in Art and Interfaith
Dialogue," Dennis F. Kinlaw III (Houston Baptist University) "The
Forms of Faith in Contemporary American Fiction".
The Student Atlas series combiness full-color maps and data sets to
introduce students to the importance of the connections between
