Rayne is a normal high school girl. She gets good grades, has troublemakers for friends, and... a mystery filled past and ancestry. Rayne has heard stories of her ancestors and couldn't believe them, no matter how much she wanted too, until a large new family of eight mysterious people came to town. The Montes. Four of which transfer to Rayne's small high school and two to her little brothers. After meeting her new peers, strange things begin happening to Rayne and her brother, Oliver; she has weird dreams of the supposedly youngest of the high school newbies, Syrus, and starts seeing frightening images. Her brother is having dreams of the past, present, and supposed future, along with knowing everything that's happened to Rayne, including the things she doesn't remember. Not only that, but his sweet, scared domineer changes drastically, creating problems within the family, and with Rayne's own life. An accident occurs and puts Rayne in a bizarre and unexplainable coma for almost a week, causing her to have more dreams of strange people. The same night she returns home from the hospital, she is awakened and kidnapped. Later to find out it was by the same people-or in this case animals- from her dreams and their leader isn't happy with the towns' newest family. What did the Montes do that angered him? And why does he seem to follow Rayne? What will the terrifying new visitors do to get back at them? As Rayne's feelings for the two Montes brothers grow, the changes she's going through become even more painful and uncontrollable. She does things to save others, even though she didn't know she could. And when her kidnapper comes to pay her a friendly visit, Rayne discovers more than she wanted too, and it won't be the last time. To Rayne's complete and utter surprise, the Montes and the other band of new comers are not the only things that start showing up that she didn't think existed. When Brom, a "family friend," swoops in, literally, and proves that "there is much more in this world than what you were able to see" Rayne starts trying to "see" what she wasn't able to before. But could what she sees be too much for her to handle along with all the disturbing changes happening to her? With everything that's happened and what's to come, Rayne begins asking herself if the tales could be true, and what she has to do with them, or if the legends are leaving something important out. Will Rayne be able to handle the enormous amount of pressure placed on her, not only by the two Montes boys and the leader of the invading band of kidnappers, but by an entirely new world? Will she be able to tackle the problems that arise from the one thing she once wanted so badly to exist? The one thing she worries about most of all... Will she be able to cope with the truth about herself?
