environments and settings, education and training requirements, key
issues and trends, and ethical and conceptual bases of the

The definitive framework for ethical analysis and decision-making
for RNs across all practice levels, roles and settings. Revisions
were made in this new edition in response to the complexities of
modern nursing, to simplify and more clearly articulate the
content, to anticipate advances in health care, and to incorporate
aids that would make it richer, more accessible, and easier to use.
Consisting of nine provisions and the accompanying interpretive
statements, it: Provides a succinct statement of the ethical
values, obligations, and duties of every individual who enters the
nursing profession. Serves as the profession's nonnegotiable
ethical standard. Expresses nursing's own understanding of its
commitment to society. The code is particularly useful to in
today's health care environment because it reiterates the
fundamental values and commitments of the nurse (Provisions 1-3),
identifies the boundaries of duty and loyalty (Provisions 4-6), and
describes the duties of the nurse that extend beyond individual
patient encounters (Provisions 7-9). This revision retains
interpretive statements for each provision that provide more
specific guidance for practice. The statements are responsive to
the contemporary context of nursing and recognize the larger scope
of nursing's concern in relation to health. It also includes
another innovation: links to foundational and supplemental
documents, which will be available later in 2015. ANA's Code of
Ethics for Nurses is the promise that nurses are doing their best
to provide care for their patients and their communities and are
supporting each other in the process so that all nurses can fulfill
their ethical and professional obligations. It is important tool
that can be used now as leverage to a better future for nurses,
patients and health care. This Code is a reflection of the proud
ethical heritage of nursing, a guide for all nurses now and into
the future.

edition of the Standards. But patient handling and mobility-related
injury rates have not been reduced significantly. This means that
our work is not done. One goal of the second edition is to

resources and re-ignite SPHM discussions and improvements. There
are eight overarching standards featured in the book, each one
outlined and explained in detail: Culture of Safety Sustainable

Training, and Maintaining Competence Patient-Centered Assessment

Comprehensive Evaluation System Nurses and all other healthcare
workers must continue to use technology, do research, and discover

Faith community nursing is a nursing practice specialty that
focuses on the intentional care of the spirit, the promotion of an
integrative model of health, and the prevention and minimization of
illness within the context of a faith community. Such practitioners
consider the spiritual, physical, psychological, and social aspects
of an individual to create a sense of harmony with self, others,
the environment, and a higher power. Consequently, healing is the
process of integrating the individual's body, mind, and spirit to
create wholeness, health, and a sense of well-being for that
person. This book addresses the essential aspects of such practice.
It completely updates the 2012 edition, reflecting the complex
requirements and changes that underlay faith community nursing,
health care, and the nursing profession as well as their enduring
components and qualities. Continuing and building on more than a
decade of collaboration, Health Ministries Association, Inc. and
American Nurses Association have again published an authoritative,
concise, and practical resource. To do so, the two groups convened
a team of twenty-one practicing faith community nurses to develop
the text with input from other nurses in three rounds of review.
The result: the most current and comprehensive delineation of the
competent level of nursing practice and professional performance
that is common to and expected from all faith community nurses. The
book's single scope of practice builds on what is expected of all
registered nurses, specifying the who, what, where, when, why, and
how of faith community nursing practice. Each standard is
measurable by a set of specific competencies that serve as evidence
of minimal compliance with that standard. The standards themselves
- six standards of practice and ten standards of professional
performance - are those by which all RNs in faith community nursing
are held accountable for their practice. The book's discussion of
the scope of faith community nursing practice lends a comprehensive
context for understanding and using the standards, addressing its
practice priorities and characteristics, practice environments and
settings, education and training requirements, key issues and
trends, and ethical and conceptual bases. While primarily for faith
community nurses and the nursing profession, it is also aimed at
other healthcare providers; spiritual leaders, families, and
members of faith communities; and employers, insurers,
policymakers, and regulators.
