This book analyses Brexit in the larger context of the crisis in
liberal democracies and the continuing rise of 'nationalism'. With
electoral verdicts favouring right-wing populists across the world,
the volume argues that Brexit has become a key event in
understanding global political currents, as well as emerging as a
watershed moment in the current political climate. The author
focuses on the underlying currents that shaped the Brexit vote and
delineates the various strands of arguments that inform the current
political climate. The volume also locates the deepening divide
within the discourse and understanding of democracy, as well the
abysmally low level of rhetoric informing the debates around it.
Further, it links this up with other 'nationalist' waves across the
world, including South Asia. A nuanced reading of a key event, this
book will be of great interest to scholars and researchers of
politics, especially political theory, political sociology and
history.

This book analyses South Asian Islam's engagement with the West,
and Britain in particular. It traces the roots of British
multiculturalism to South Asia and the Deobandi school of Islam.
The work shows how the pattern of interaction that initially
emerged between the Deobandi Muslims and the colonial British state
in late-19th century replicated itself in the British society in
the second half of 20th century. The monograph reflects upon
Islam's 'compatibility' with liberal democracy as well as explores
how it contributed to its origins in the Enlightenment ethos. A
nuanced, sensitive and topical study, this book will be essential
to understanding the world in the light of contemporary world
events-Paris 13/11 and Charlie Hebdo attacks, the Danish cartoon
controversy, and the Trojan Horse incident in certain British
schools as well as the much earlier Rushdie affair. It will be of
great interest to researchers and scholars of political science,
religion, political Islam, British and South Asian Studies, and
history.

The study examines the effect of unfocused vs. focused written
corrective feedback on the writing accuracy of Iranian advanced EFL
learners. The findings revealed that the participants in the focused
group improved in their writing accuracy although the improvement
was not significant. However, it was found that the unfocused group
performed worse in comparison to the scores obtained from their
pre-test. This might adhere to some researchers' claims that
corrective feedback might not be effective since learners'
acquisition of various grammatical features is slow and complicated
and that when feedback on various structures is provided, learners
might be unable or unwilling to make use of them effectively while
composing a new piece of writing.
