Sammy, as depicted in Amy Gantt's superb illustrations, was my beloved pet for 8 years. In my grieving process after his loss, the idea to write a book series honoring him became more and more apparent. Thus, Sammy's Big Adventure series continues in Book 2 with Sammy going to the park with his father and his friend Steve. They enjoy themselves with fun activities at the park, including playing football in the field, feeding the ducks and fish at the park's pond, jogging to the jungle gym, and having fun at the slide. As they're walking home, Sammy finds a wallet peeking out of the bushes. His father and Steve ask him how he plans to solve this ethical situation. Sammy responds by taking the wallet to the police station, confirming his family's value of honesty. They all come home, eat a nice meal, and say goodbye to Steve until the next Sammy's Big Adventure comes along

Sammy's Big Adventure series continues in Book 3 with Sammy and his parents visiting Sammy's cousin Adam and his family in the beautiful city of Charlotte, North Carolina. They enjoy Sammy's favorite breakfast before touring the Queen City. They head to uptown Charlotte to explore and learn the history of the city. They also visit the Belk Theater, the Mint Museum Randolph, and tour the Billy Graham Library. In addition, Sammy, Adam, and the family find the Charlotte Motor Speedway and Lake Norman to learn and explore these fantastic places. Then, they eat at Hungry Howie's Pizza, and call it a day. Sammy thanks Adam for a wonderful day in the city and he says, "I'll always remember Charlotte." Sammy says good night to his friends and his parents before turning in, all the while thinking of his next Big Adventure.

Thus, Sammy's great adventure series was designed, with the first book theme depicting a "safari" adventure of his day. In addition, Sammy and his family include a simple chore chart, with the ultimate free time to play soccer after the chores are completed. Sammy's friend (in real life as well) finishes his chores and joins Sammy for some serious soccer. Mom & Dad fix lunch and send them out to play. Later on, Steve goes home and Sammy gets ready for bed, remembering to thank everyone who helped him on his "safari" and especially his young readers, who are inspired to read more in the series about Sammy and his next big adventure.
