After Heidi Conner discovers the body of her boyfriend, Drake Bloom, she becomes the prime suspect in his murder.

A selection of 85 Flemish drawings gives an astonishing and representative overview of the art of drawing in the 16th and 17th centuries. The International Workshop on "The Use of Super computers in Theoretical Science" took place from July 30 till August 1, 1984, at the Conference Center of the "Priorij Corsendonk", close to the city of Antwerpen, Belgium. During the past decade computational science has developed itself to a third methodology besides the experimental and theoretical sciences. This remarkable evolution was only possible due to a drastic increase of the computational power of present day computers. Indeed, computational physics and chemistry as such is certainly not new, but it was only during the past ten years or so that realistic problems could be solved numerically to a sufficient degree of accuracy. During this workshop the state-of-the-art in high speed computation was presented by a team of lecturers who are well known for their competence in this field. This volume contains of the proceedings of the CECAM {Centre d'Etudes de Calcul Atomique et Moleculaire} workshop on "Ab Initio Calculation of Phonon Spectra" which took place at the campus of the University of Antwerpen (Universitaire Instelling Antwerpen) on June 4 and 5, 1981. This workshop was sponsored by the Universitaire Instelling Antwerpen, by the Belgian "Nationaal Fonds voor Weten- schappelijk Onderzoek" and the Belgian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs. Although the calculation of phonon spectra in a solid has long been known to solid state physicists, it is only in the last decade that a macroscopic theory which treats the response of the electrons to the vibrations of the ions has been developed in a successful way. In the case of semiconductors numerical calculations of phonon frequencies were not performed until very recently due to the complex- ity of the problem. The correct treatment of the electron in the crystal has also led to an investigation of electron-phonon inter- action, including many body effects. Success has been achieved in the calculation of phonon anomalies and the coupling parameters in transition metals. In the case of surfaces the conductions for the appearance of electronic instabilities and the coupling of the resulting charge density wave to the lattice have been studied.

The International Workshops on "The Use of Supercomputers in Theoretical Science" have become a tradition at the Univer sity of Antwerp, Belgium. The first one took place in 1984. This volume combines the proceedings of the second work shop (December 12, 1985), of the third (June 16, 1987) and of the fourth (June 9, 1988). The principal aim of the International Workshops is to present the state-of-the-art in scientific high speed computa tion. Indeed, during the past ten years computational science has become a third methodology with merits equal to the theo retical and experimental sciences. Regretfully, access to supercomputers remains limited for academic researchers. None theless, supercomputers have become a major tool for scientists in a wide variety of scientific fields, and they lead to a realistic solution of problems that could not be solved a decade ago. Restorative justice occupies an important place in criminological literature and criminal justice policies and is about facilitating communication between victims, offenders and communities in search of conciliation. Research shows that victims of crime are generally highly satisfied with their participation in a restorative intervention, such as victim-offender mediation, family group conferencing and victim-offender encounters. In order to maintain good restorative practice, the reasons why restorative justice is appreciated need to be clearly understood. In this book, Tinneke Van Camp identifies and explores the factors that contribute to victims' appreciation of restorative practices in order to advance insight into why restorative justice works for victims. Based on original research and qualitative interviews with victims of violent crime, this book draws on procedural justice theory and socio-psychological studies and analyses how victims value restorative interventions. The findings shed a light on the factors that contribute to victim satisfaction with restorative interventions and show how they relate to procedural fairness, as well as allow an exploration of how the timing of the restorative intervention in the criminal justice proceedings affects victim appreciation. With its use of in-depth interviews and case descriptions, this book will be of interest to academics, practitioners and students alike. Young Rembrandt concentrates on the first ten years of the career of Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669). Born in Leiden, he trained there with Isaac van Swanenburg and in Amsterdam with Pieter Lastman. After a short stay in Amsterdam he returned to Leiden and set up a studio where he began his extraordinary career, painting scenes from the Bible and classical mythology and history, as well as a handful of genre scenes and portraits. His progress is remarkable: from the earliest hesitant paintings of the Five Senses in about 1624 to the wonderfully assured Jeremiah of 1630 it is almost possible to trace his development and his increasing fluency and self-confidence from month to month and certainly from year to year.
