Martin Luthers Judenfeindschaft ist beruchtigt. Ihr Zusammenhang mit zentralen Themen seiner Theologie ist jedoch umstritten. Die Antisemitismusforschung wiederum hat sich bisher nur wenig fur theologische Wurzeln der Judenfeindschaft interessiert. Die Untersuchung fuhrt beide Perspektiven zusammen: Luthers Schrift "Von den Juden und ihren Lugen" (1543) wird nicht nur im Blick auf die darin zum Ausdruck kommende Judenfeindschaft analysiert, sondern auch auf ihren theologischen Gehalt hin befragt. Dadurch verscharft sich das Problem: Der Antisemitismus ist im Zentrum der Theologie des Reformators verankert, in der Christologie und in der Rechtfertigungslehre. Diese Erkenntnis fuhrt zu einer Sicht auf Luthers Theologie, in der diese selbst zum Problem wird.

This anthology contains a selection of essays by Friedrich-Wilhelm Marquardt (1928-2002), former professor of systematic theology at the Free University of Berlin, Germany. As a student of Karl Barth in the fifties, Marquardt became one of the most influential pioneers in renewing the relationship between Christians and Jews in Germany after the Shoah, as well as a Barth scholar proposing a new perspective on Barth's theology and political radicalism.
