From the beginning of human history, individuals across cultures
and belief systems have looked to the sky for meaning. The movement
of celestial bodies and their relation to our human lives has been
the central tenant of astrology for thousands of years. The
practice has both inspired reverence and worship, and deepened our
understanding of ourselves and the world around us. While
modern-day horoscopes may be the most familiar form of astrological
knowledge, their lineage reaches back to ancient Mesopotamia. As
author Andrea Richards recounts in Astrology, the second volume in
TASCHEN's Library of Esoterica series, astronomy and astrology were
once sister sciences: the King's Chamber of the Great Pyramid at
Giza was built to align with constellations, Persian scholars
oversaw some of the first observatories, and even Galileo cast
horoscopes for the Medicis. But with the Enlightenment and the
birth of exact science, the practice moved to places where mystery
was still permitted, inspiring literature, art, and psychology, and
influenced artists and thinkers such as Goethe, Byron, and Blake.
Later movements like the Theosophists and the New Agers, would
thrust the practice into the mainstream. Edited by Jessica Hundley,
this vibrant visual history of Western astrology is the first ever
compendium of its kind, exploring the symbolic meaning behind more
than 400 images, from Egyptian temples and illuminated manuscripts
to contemporary art from across the globe. Works by artists from
Alphonese Mucha and Hilma af Klint to Arpita Singh and Manzel
Bowman are sequenced to mirror the spin of the planets and the
wheel of the zodiac. With wisdom from new interviews with
astrologers like Robert Hand, Jessica Lanyadoo, and Mecca Woods,
Astrology celebrates the stars and their mysterious influence on
our everyday lives. About the series The Library of Esoterica
explores how centuries of artists have given form to mysticism,
translating the arcane and the obscure into enduring, visionary
works of art. Each subject is showcased through both modern and
archival imagery culled from private collectors, libraries, and
museums around the globe. The result forms an inclusive visual
history, a study of our primal pull to dream and nightmare, and the
creative ways we strive to connect to the divine.

Most people search endlessly for their purpose but come up empty
handed. Some people search for meaning in relationships. Others
search for their purpose at work. Still others seek their true
calling in good works. What they soon discover is that they get
overwhelmed doing all kinds of 'good deeds' that they were not
called to do. Without God at the core, their efforts are futile.
The good news is that your Creator provided you with building
blocks (foundation, framework, and structure) in the Bible that you
can use to make sound decisions and choices; including: What you
are supposed to do with your life. "Purpose Quest" will guide you
through twelve biblically based building blocks that can be used to
understand who you are and what you were created to do. It provides
end-of-chapter prayer and challenges as well as a study guide that
you can use alone, in a small group, or with a book club. This
book, used in conjunction with the Bible, will enable you to
discover and live God's purpose for your life. Andrea's insights,
skills and knowledge gained from over 20 years in Corporate America
and Church Servant Leadership culminate in this biblically based
book that features the building blocks (foundation, framework, and
structure) to get the life you've always dreamed about.
After writing Purpose Quest, Andrea got the request to create a
prayer book. The prayers at the end of each chapter seem to
stimulate the reader's appetite so she set out to create a book of
prayers that addresses over 199 principles. This was no small task.
She decided in order to make it as authentic and powerful as
possible, she would have to pray - really pray. So that's what I
did. What she ended up with was a book of prayers that is filled
with scripture references; over 400 in all. Andrea always enjoyed
journaling her prayers and this gave her an opportunity to capture
and share them with you. The prayers in this book are the result of
Andrea's petitions to God on your behalf. Read them, recite them,
and retain them. The prayers are filled with tons of scripture
references so use them in conjunction with your Bible for greater
impact. Share Purpose Prayers with your prayer partner or prayer
group because as Jesus said, ..".if two of you on earth agree about
anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in
heaven." Purpose Prayers is part of the Purpose Series which also
includes Purpose Quest and Purpose Guide.

zuruckgreift, welche Kommunikation hinsichtlich ihrer Erwartungen
erfolgreicher und wahrscheinlicher machen (sollen): namlich
"Medien." Er unterscheidet hierzu in Medium Sprache,
Verbreitungsmedien und symbolisch generalisierte
Kommunikationsmedien. Letztgenannte nehmen zudem einen immensen
Stellenwert in Luhmanns Theoriearchitektur ein. Die vorliegende
Ausarbeitung richtet ihr Augenmerk dementsprechend auf das Konzept
symbolisch generalisierter Kommunikationsmedien: Was sind
symbolisch generalisierte Kommunikationsmedien und wie
funktionieren sie? Es soll folglich gelingen, die Theorie
symbolisch generalisierter Kommunikationsmedien verstandlich
darzustellen. Jedoch lasst sich Luhmanns Konzept dieser speziellen
Medien auch kritisch hinterfragen. Demnach sollen mogliche Ansatze
zur Uberprufung des Luhmann'schen Konzepts symbolisch
generalisierter Kommunikationsmedien vorgeschlagen und ansatzweise
ausgefuhrt werden.
