This book presents the synthetic methodologies as well as the
properties and potential usage of various ruthenium-containing
materials. Starting from the first examples of 'ruthenopolymers'
reported in the 1970s to the 3D architectures now synthesized,
these materials have shown their importance far beyond fundamental
polymer science. As well as highlighting the remarkable properties
and versatile applications, this book also addresses a key question
related to the applications of such heavy-metal-containing
materials from the perspective of achieving a sustainable future.
This book is of interest to both materials scientists and chemists
in academia and industry.
This book presents the outcomes of the trans- and interdisciplinary
research project NEMo (Nachhaltige Erfullung von
Mobilitatsbedurfnissen im landlichen Raum - Sustainable Fulfilment
of Mobility Needs in Rural Areas). Due to demographic change, it is
becoming increasingly difficult for rural districts and communities
to maintain a basic set of public transport services such as bus
and train transit without encountering issues regarding necessary
social participation, sensible regional value creation and, last
but not least, achievable environmental protection goals. At the
same time, the demand for mobility in rural areas will continue to
rise in the future, e.g. due to the concentration of medical care
facilities and shopping centres close to cities. Focusing on the
development of sustainable and innovative mobility services and
business models, this book explains how new mobility offers can be
created in which citizens themselves become mobility providers. To
do so, it combines the findings of the individual research groups
with external contributions from science and practice.

This book presents the latest findings and ongoing research in the
field of green information systems and green information and
communication technology (ICT). It provides insights into a whole
range of cross-cutting topics in ICT and environmental sciences as
well as showcases how information and communication technologies
allow environmental and energy efficiency issues to be handled
effectively. The papers presented in this book are a selection of
extended and improved contributions to the 28th International
Conference on Informatics for Environmental Protection dedicated to
ICT for energy efficiency. This book is essential and particularly
worth reading for those who already gained basic knowledge and want
to deepen and extend their expertise in the subjects mentioned
above.

This is an introductory textbook at graduate or advanced
undergraduate level. Students with diverse backgrounds, in
mathematics, physics and computer science, can use it to become
acquainted with the quantum theory of information. Its scope is
deliberately chosen to be not too broad, while being
self-consistent and usable for a semester-long course for
beginners. The subject is presented using a balanced mix of
intuitive arguments and rigorous formalism. The emphasis is not on
the physical information but rather in the formal and mathematical
features of quantum information theory. Only a basic knowledge of
algebra is required to understand the contents of this book. In
particular, a background in quantum mechanics is not needed, since
quantum theory is used as a mere mathematical framework without
entering into physical interpretations. The book introduces all
necessary concepts from quantum theory and classical information
theory, to cover the elements of quantum Shannon theory: quantum
states and channels, data compression and entropy, error correcting
codes and channel capacities, as well as the basics of entanglement
theory and quantum cryptography.Examples are provided to help the
reader in understanding the different concepts, together with
exercises at the end of each chapter.
