This book contains thirty-five selected papers presented at the
International Conference on Evolutionary and Deterministic Methods
for Design, Optimization and Control with Applications to
Industrial and Societal Problems (EUROGEN 2017). This was one of
the Thematic Conferences of the European Community on Computational
Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS). Topics treated in the
various chapters reflect the state of the art in theoretical and
numerical methods and tools for optimization, and engineering
design and societal applications. The volume focuses particularly
on intelligent systems for multidisciplinary design optimization
(mdo) problems based on multi-hybridized software, adjoint-based
and one-shot methods, uncertainty quantification and optimization,
multidisciplinary design optimization, applications of game theory
to industrial optimization problems, applications in structural and
civil engineering optimum design and surrogate models based
optimization methods in aerodynamic design.
Aerodynamic design, like many other engineering applications, is
increasingly relying on computational power. The growing need for
multi-disciplinarity and high fidelity in design optimization for
industrial applications requires a huge number of repeated
simulations in order to find an optimal design candidate. The main
drawback is that each simulation can be computationally expensive -
this becomes an even bigger issue when used within parametric
studies, automated search or optimization loops, which typically
may require thousands of analysis evaluations. The core issue of a
design-optimization problem is the search process involved.
However, when facing complex problems, the high-dimensionality of
the design space and the high-multi-modality of the target
functions cannot be tackled with standard techniques. In recent
years, global optimization using meta-models has been widely
applied to design exploration in order to rapidly investigate the
design space and find sub-optimal solutions. Indeed, surrogate and
reduced-order models can provide a valuable alternative at a much
lower computational cost. In this context, this volume offers
advanced surrogate modeling applications and optimization
techniques featuring reasonable computational resources. It also
discusses basic theory concepts and their application to
aerodynamic design cases. It is aimed at researchers and engineers
who deal with complex aerodynamic design problems on a daily basis
and employ expensive simulations to solve them.
Baroque Lorca: An Archaist Playwright for the New Stage defines
Federico Garcia Lorca's trajectory in the theater as a lifelong
search for an audience. It studies a wide range of dramatic
writings that Lorca created for the theater, in direct response to
the conditions of his contemporary industry, and situates the
theory and praxis of his theatrical reform in dialogue with other
modernist renovators of the stage. This book makes special emphasis
on how Lorca engaged with the tradition of Spanish Baroque, in
particular with Cervantes and Calderon, to break away from the
conventions of the illusionist stage. The five chapters of the book
analyze Lorca's different attempts to change the dynamics of the
Spanish stage from 1920 to his assassination in 1936: His initial
incursions in the arenas of symbolist and historical drama (The
Butterfly's Evil Spell, Mariana Pineda); his interest in puppetry
(The Billy-Club Puppets and In the Frame of Don Cristobal) and the
two 'human' farces The Shoemaker's Prodigious Wife and The Love of
Don Perlimplin and Belisa in the Garden; the central piece in his
project of 'impossible' theater (The Public); his most explicitly
political play, one that takes the violence to the spectators'
seats (The Dream of Life); and his three plays adopting, an
altering, the contemporary formula of 'rural drama' (Blood Wedding,
Yerma and The House of Bernarda Alba). Chapter 5 of this book is
freely available as a downloadable Open Access PDF under a Creative

What is the proper relationship of religion to power? In this
collection of essays, a group of interdisciplinary scholars address
that question, building on the scholarship of the late Dr. Jean
Bethke Elshtain. The first section of this book provides the reader
with three previously unpublished essays by Elshtain on the subject
of political sovereignty, followed by an interview with the noted
ethicist and political theorist. Dr. Elshtain questions the nature
of sovereignty in a world where some have elevated the state and
the self above the authority of God himself. In the second section
of the book, "Sovereignty through the Ages", four scholars explore
some of the key questions raised by Dr. Elshtain's work on Just
War, resistance to tyranny, political liberalism, and modernity,
questioning the ways in which sovereignty may be conceived to
reinforce the limitations of human societies and yet seek the
greater good. In the third section of the book, entitled
"Sovereignty in Context", three essays extend her analysis of
sovereignty to different contexts - Latin America, the Islamic
world, and the international system as a whole, all the while
demonstrating the importance of how religious interpretation
contributes to our understanding of political power.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second
International Conference on Evolvable Systems: From Biology to
Hardware, ICES '98, held in Lausanne, Switzerland in September
1998.
The 38 revised papers presented were carefully selected for
inclusion in the book from numerous submissions. The papers are
organized in topical sections on evaluation of digital systems,
evolution of analog systems, embryonic electronics, bio-inspired
systems, artifical neural networks, adaptive robotics, adaptive
hardware platforms, and molecular computing.
Implementing IP and Ethernet on the 4G Mobile Network delves into
the 4G mobile network that allows an IP packet transmitted by a
mobile to be transported to its gateway, reciprocally using the
following networks: MPLS-VPN, VPLS and OTN. The mechanisms for the
implementation of quality of service (QoS) on the EPS, IP, Ethernet
and MPLS networks are presented, as is the security for the LTE
radio interface, the NAS messages and the links of the transport
(IPSec). In addition, readers will find discussions of the aspects
relating to the synchronization of the eNB entities, including
SyncE and IEEE 1588 mechanisms.
This book presents LTE evolution towards 5G mobile communication
and the emergence of new requirements for MBB, MTC and LLC
services. As LTE technologies evolve, LTE Advanced Pro dramatically
increases cell capacity and user data rates for the MBB unicast
service. Such requirements are obtained using full-dimension MIMO,
carrier aggregation (on either licensed or unlicensed frequency
bands) and dual connectivity. To improve the efficiency of
same-content delivery to multiple users, 3GPP proposes a group
communications service over LTE and defines mission critical
push-to-talk (MCPTT) for dedicated public safety services.
Complementary low-cost and low-power modems with enhanced coverage
and massive connectivity are emerging. Thus, this book also
discusses the need for LTE to support low-rate transmission and
high-latency communication for MTC services.

Gregoriana.
