Gawky teenager Peter Parker (Garfield) lives with his aunt and uncle in New York City. Two Jesuit priests, Sebastião Rodrigues and Francis Garrpe, travel to seventeenth century Japan which has, under the Tokugawa shogunate, banned Catholicism and almost all foreign contact.

Single father Dennis Nash (Garfield) is struggling to make ends meet and take care of his mother Lynn (Laura Dern) and son Connor (Noah Lomax).
