Researchers in many disciplines have been concerned with modeling textual data in order to account for texts as the primary information unit of written communication. The book "Modelling, Learning and Processing of Text-Technological Data Structures" deals with this challenging information unit. It focuses on theoretical foundations of representing natural language texts as well as on concrete operations of automatic text processing. Following this integrated approach, the present volume includes contributions to a wide range of topics in the context of processing of textual data. This relates to the learning of ontologies from natural language texts, the annotation and automatic parsing of texts as well as the detection and tracking of topics in texts and hypertexts. In this way, the book brings together a wide range of approaches to procedural aspects of text technology as an emerging scientific discipline.
This book contains selected state-of-the-art contributions to the 9th conference on natural language processing, KONVENS 2008 (Konferenz zur Verarbeitung naturlicher Sprache), with the central theme: text resources and lexical knowledge. The collection is unique in its placement of focus on the interaction between both of the above-mentioned fields, illustrating in particular the importance of methods in corpus linguistics for building lexical resources on the one hand, and the relevance of lexical resources for the analysis of and intelligent search methods for text corpora on the other. The selected articles all present novel approaches to one of three different research areas which in turn define the three parts of the book: Techniques and models for the linguistic analysis of text resources: contributions from computational linguistics Methods and tools for the acquisition of lexical knowledge from digitized and linguistically annotated text resources Approaches to the representation of lexical knowledge in digital media for various purposes.

The status of the German language has perhaps never aroused more heated debate: scholars argue that the language is in visible decline, that its lexicon and grammar are increasingly impoverished, not least through massive infiltration by Anglicisms. The newly published language report presents the findings of research studies in four areas that have characterized the debate in different ways: vocabulary, Anglicisms, flexion, and nominal style.
Three innovatory concepts in computer-aided lexicography are the subject of this collection of articles: (1) hypertext/hypermedia as a new form of organizing lexical knowledge, (2) the Internet as a publication medium for lexicographic products, and (3) modeling lexicographic information by means of SGML/XML. The articles in the first part of the volume provide an introduction to these concepts and discuss their importance for the production and publication of interactive, digital hypermedia dictionaries. The contributions in the second part address theoretical and methodical aspects arising in connection with the use of these concepts in dictionary projects and opening up new research perspectives.
