'There are few who write science fiction like Ann Leckie can. There
are few who ever could' John Scalzi The mystery of a missing
translator sets three lives on a collision course that will have a
ripple effect across the stars in this powerful new novel by
award-winning author Ann Leckie. Qven was created to be a Presger
translator. The pride of their Clade, they always had a clear path
before them: learn human ways, and eventually, make a match and
serve as an intermediary between the dangerous alien Presger and
the human worlds. The realization that they might want something
else isn't "optimal behavior". I's the type of behavior that
results in elimination. But Qven rebels. And in doing so, their
path collides with those of two others. Enae, a reluctant diplomat
whose dead grandmaman has left hir an impossible task as an
inheritance: hunting down a fugitive who has been missing for over
200 years. And Reet, an adopted mechanic who is increasingly
desperate to learn about his genetic roots - or anything that might
explain why he operates so differently from those around him. As a
Conclave of the various species approaches - and the long-standing
treaty between the humans and the Presger is on the line - the
decisions of all three will have ripple effects across the stars.
Masterfully merging space adventure and mystery, and a poignant
exploration about relationships and belonging, Translation State is
a triumphant new standalone story set in Leckie's celebrated
Imperial Radch universe.

Many women experience money as a source of sadness, jealousy,
anger, resentment, confusion, or worry. They want to be
responsible, but feel out of control with their money. They work so
hard to earn it, but there never seems to be enough. In
Girlfriends' Guide to Money, authors Lucinda Atwood, Ann Leckie,
and Marina Glass show women how to develop a great relationship
with money in order to live happily and fully. With humor and
personal anecdotes, and in easily accessible language, they provide
the tools to help women to change their unhealthy and negative
thoughts about money. Girlfriends' Guide to Money teaches women how
to clarify their personal values, develop their own financial goals
and action plans, and spend and save in alignment with those
values. In addition, financial experts provide their advice on
topics such as starting a new job, disability, job loss, and
bankruptcy. The Girlfriends' Guide to Money is not about budgeting
or deprivation. It is about thoughtfully aligning saving and
spending with personal values. With clear values, women can set
financial goals and action plans that fit like a well worn pair of
jeans so they can be successful on their own terms.

Ancillary Mercy is the stunning conclusion to the trilogy that
began with Ancillary Justice, the only novel ever to win the Hugo,
Nebula, and Arthur C. Clarke Awards. For a moment, things seemed to
be under control for Breq, the soldier who used to be a warship.
Then a search of Athoek Station's slums turns up someone who
shouldn't exist and a messenger from the mysterious Presger empire
arrives, as does Breq's old enemy, the divided, heavily armed, and
possibly insane Anaander Mianaai - ruler of an empire at war with
itself. Breq could flee with her ship and crew, but that would
leave the people of Athoek in terrible danger. Breq has a desperate
plan. The odds aren't good, but that's never stopped her before.
The Imperial Radch trilogy begins with Ancillary Justice, continues
in Ancillary Sword and concludes with Ancillary Mercy. Also

The record-breaking debut novel that won every major science
fiction award in 2014, Ancillary Justice is the story of a warship
trapped in a human body and her search for revenge. Ann Leckie is
the first author to win the Arthur C. Clarke, the Nebula and the
Hugo Award for Best Novel in the same year. They made me kill
thousands, but I only have one target now. The Radch are conquerors
to be feared - resist and they'll turn you into a 'corpse soldier'
- one of an army of dead prisoners animated by a warship's AI mind.
Whole planets are conquered by their own people. The colossal
warship called The Justice of Toren has been destroyed - but one
ship-possessed soldier has escaped the devastation. Used to
controlling thousands of hands, thousands of mouths, The Justice
now has only two hands, and one mouth with which to tell her tale.
But one fragile, human body might just be enough to take revenge
against those who destroyed her. 'ENGAGING AND PROVOCATIVE' SFX

in the powerful port of Vastai. His will is enacted through the
Raven's Lease, a human ruler chosen by the god himself. His magic
is sustained by the blood sacrifice that every Lease must offer.
And under the Raven's watch, the city flourishes. But the Raven's

has been waiting to reveal itself. . .and to set in motion a chain

Listen. A god is speaking. My voice echoes through the stone of

Some of the women traveling west in the late 1850s were strong
advocates of equal rights for their sex. On the trail, Julia
Archibald Holmes and Hannah Keziah Clapp sensibly wore the "freedom
costume" called bloomers. In 1858 Holmes joined the Pikes Peak gold
rush and was the first woman of record to climb the famous
mountain. Educator Hannah Clapp traveled to California with a
revolver by her side, speaking her mind in a letter included in
this volume, which is also enriched by the trail diaries of seven
other women. Among them were Sarah Sutton, who died in 1854, just
before reaching Oregon's Willamette Valley; Sarah Maria Mousley, a
Mormon woman traveling to Utah in 1857; and Martha Missouri Moore,
who drove thousands of sheep from Missouri to California with her
husband in 1860.
