'The Lister diaries are the Dead Sea Scrolls of lesbian history;
they changed everything. By resurrecting them and editing them with
such loving attention and intelligence, Helena Whitbread has earned
the gratitude of a whole generation' EMMA DONOGHUE 'Engaging,
revealing, at times simply astonishing: Anne Lister's diaries are
an indispensable read' SARAH WATERS Anne Lister (1791-1840) was one
of the most remarkable women of her time. Fearless and
uncompromising, she was determined to live life on her own terms,
both financially and sexually. She wrote extensive diaries in
'crypthand', which allowed her to record her life in intimate, and
sometimes explicit, detail. When they were decoded by Helena
Whitbread, lesbian history was changed for ever. This is the second
volume of her diaries. No Priest But Love begins in 1824. After an
ill-fated love affair with a married woman, Anne Lister embarks on
a journey alone to post-revolutionary Paris, a city alive with
political intrigue. Here, she becomes romantically involved with a
young widow, a relationship at odds with her social ambitions.
Anne's efforts, firstly to extricate herself from this new 'scrape'
and then to make a choice between the two women in her life,
provides an absorbing sexual and social drama. '[Anne Lister's]
sense of self, and self-awareness, is what makes her modern to us.
She was a woman exercising conscious choice. She controlled her
cash and her body. At a time when women had to marry, or be looked
after by a male relative, and when all their property on marriage
passed to their husband, Anne Lister not only dodged the traps of
being female, she set up a liaison with another woman that enhanced
her own wealth and left both of them free to live as they wished .
. . The diaries gave me courage' JEANETTE WINTERSON

DONOGHUE When this volume of Anne Lister's diaries was first
published in 1988, it was hailed as a vital piece of lost lesbian
history. The editor, Helena Whitbread, had spent years
painstakingly researching and transcribing Lister's extensive
journals, much of which were written in an elaborate code - what
Lister called her 'crypthand', which allowed her to record her life
in intimate, and at times, explicit, detail. Until then, Anne
Lister's lesbianism had been supressed or hinted at; this was the
first time her story had been told. Anne Lister defied the role of
nineteenth-century womanhood: she was bold, fiercely independent, a
landowner, industrialist, traveller and lesbian - a woman who lived
her life on her own terms. '[Anne Lister's] sense of self, and
self-awareness, is what makes her modern to us. She was a woman

and left both of them free to live as they wished . . . The diaries
gave me courage' JEANETTE WINTERSON These diaries include the years
1816-1824. The second volume, continuing Anne's story, THE SECRET
DIARIES OF MISS ANNE LISTER: NO PRIEST BUT LOVE, is now available.

Mega rock star, Alex "Zander" Metcalf is burned out after nearly
two years touring with his band, as well as emotionally drained
after his sexual preferences were exposed by the media. He is ready
for a long sabbatical - alone, and retreats to the east coast
island of Martha's Vineyard; leasing an oceanside estate. Alex
seeks the quiet lifestyle of a recluse to write new material for
his band, only to meet the handsome estate manager, Chase, and his
gorgeous fiancee, Danni, living in the guest house on his property.
Alex's hope of solitude is soon forgotten when he discovers Chase
has a repressed bi-sexual side that is aching to surface and Alex
is more than happy to help him explore it. What neither Alex or
Chase expects is the emotional power of their chemistry expanding
to involve the three of them when Danni becomes entangled in their
passion. Alex believes he has finally found his perfect menage
relationship with Chase and Danni. Sometimes two isn't enough and
it takes three to complete the union of a fulfilled love. But, will
their new relationship be strong enough to survive when real life
wants to punish them for their unconventional love? And, can they
be confident in the strength of their love to take the 'happily
ever after' they can only give each other?
Set in 21st century London, this classic portal fantasy moves
between the world as we know it and a more mythic landscape. A
songwriter, a teacher, a botanist, an artistic child and a
well-meaning blunderer find themselves dealing with a very powerful
adversary. Anne Lister's first novel weaves folklore and legend
into the story, and demonstrates her fine-tuned storytelling
skills. Anne is of course best known as a songwriter and singer,
and a storyteller, and fans of her work will be delighted to read
this tale.
Entertainment journalist, Ryan Pierce, meets the infamous bad-boy
rocker, Dagger Drummond, and walks away with a great interview and
a scandalous news bit that has the potential to turn the music
world on its ear. Exposing the story would boost Ryan's career, but
it would also come with the risk of ruining Dagger's privacy - and
possibly his Rock God status. The unlikely friendship that develops
between Dagger and Ryan brings Ryan to question more than just his
journalistic oath to report the news. It also forces him to take a
look at himself and newly discovered feelings - feelings that make
Ryan blind to the risk of becoming front page news himself. Will
Ryan find the courage to make a life decision to give himself true
happiness with Dagger or take the path that would likely lead to
heartbreak and destroy his career forever?

sometimes even true soul mates aren't strong enough to survive the
heat of the spotlight.
