Aging Studies and Ecocriticism: Interdisciplinary Encounters argues
that both aging studies and ecocriticism address the complex
dynamics of individual and collective agency, oppression and
dependency, care and conviviality, vulnerability and resistance as
well as intergenerationality and responsibility. Yet, even though
both fields employ overlapping methodologies and theoretical
frameworks and scrutinize “boundary texts†in different
literary genres, which have been analyzed from ecocritical
perspectives as well as from the vantage point of critical aging
studies, there has been little scholarly interaction between
ecocritical literary studies and aging studies to date. The
contributors in this volume demonstrate the potential of specific
genres to narrate relationality and age, and the aesthetic and
ethical challenges of imagining changes, endings, and survival in
the Anthropocene. As the first step towards putting both fields in
conversation, this collection offers new pathways into
understanding human and nonhuman ecological relations.
Unternehmen stehen unter Druck, Wachstumsstrategien zur Umsatz- und
Gewinnsteigerung zu entwickeln. Anhand einer umfassenden
empirischen Untersuchung belegt Anna-Christina Dietert positive
immer bedeutsamer. Praxisrelevante Handlungsempfehlungen schliessen
die Arbeit ab.
Sixteen specially commissioned essays from an international team of
experts explore key issues, the latest work and future directions
in the field of aesthetics. "The Continuum Companion to Aesthetics"
offers the definitive guide to contemporary aesthetics. The book
covers all the most pressing and important themes and categories in
the field - areas that have continued to attract interest
historically as well as topics that have emerged more recently as
active areas of research. Sixteen specially commissioned essays
from an international team of experts reveal where important work
continues to be done in the area and, most valuably, the exciting
new directions the field is taking. "The Companion" explores new
issues pertaining to contemporary art forms, as well as tackling
traditional questions in well-established art forms with the
insight of new disciplines such as pragmatics and other areas of
cognitive science. Featuring a series of indispensable research
tools, including an A to Z of key terms and concepts, a chronology,
a detailed list of resources and a fully annotated bibliography,
this is the essential reference tool for anyone working in
aesthetics. "The Continuum Companions Series" is a major series of
single volume companions to key research fields in the humanities
aimed at postgraduate students, scholars and libraries. Each
companion offers a comprehensive reference resource giving an
overview of key topics, research areas, new directions and a
manageable guide to beginning or developing research in the field.
A distinctive feature of the series is that each companion provides
practical guidance on advanced study and research in the field,
including research methods and subject-specific resources.
Essay from the year 2006 in the subject Politics - International
Politics - Topic: International Organisations, grade: 2,0,
Ruhr-University of Bochum (Institute of Development Research and
Development Policy), 6 entries in the bibliography, language:
English, abstract: The World Bank's activities throughout the world
are a recurrent object of analysis. This can be explained, in great
scale, due to the importance and impact of the Bank's policies and
recommendations upon local societies and governments. The World
Bank mandate is clearly restricted to the economic and financial
aspects of government. Based on this, the Bank assumes an official
neutral position in regard to internal politics of all countries
with which it works, as presented on the article of Stevens and
Gnanaselvam. However, several scholars, such as Williams and Young,
argue that such neutrality is difficult, because any policy
proposed by the Bank is based on pre-established premises, which
are based on liberal ideals, which end up been forced upon the
countries that want to receive a Bank's loan. This paper will
present both perspectives and apply the concepts discussed on an
empirical case, in order to allow the evaluation of which
perspective is more coherent with real cases.
verschiedenen Freiwilligenbereichen fest.
The Bloomsbury Companion to Aesthetics presents a practical study
guide to emerging topics and art forms in aesthetics and the
philosophy of art. Placing contemporary discussion in its
historical context, this companion begins with an introduction to
the history of aesthetics. Surveying the central topics, terms and
figures and noting the changes in the roles the arts played over
the centuries, it also tackles methodological issues asking what
the proper object of study in aesthetics is, and how we should go
about studying it. Written by leading analytic philosophers in the
field, chapters on Core Issues and Art Forms cover four major
topics; - the definition of art and the ontology of art work -
aesthetic experience, aesthetic properties, and aesthetic and
artistic value - specific art forms including music, dance,
theatre, the visual arts as a whole, and the various forms of
popular art - new areas in aesthetics and the philosophy of art,
such as environmental aesthetics and global standpoint aesthetics,
as well as other new directions the field is taking towards
everyday aesthetics Featuring a list of research resources and an
extensive chronology of works in aesthetics and the philosophy of
art dating from the fifth century BC to the 21st century, The
Bloomsbury Companion to Aesthetics provides an engaging
introduction to contemporary aesthetics.
