Moses is a novel based on the great Biblical account of the Exodus of the Hebrews from the land of Egypt. The author manages to bring the Old Testament events and characters to life in a way that integrates Biblical narrative, historical reality and the psychological development of his main character, Moses. Moses is a fine exploration of the person of Moses. As the outward journey towards the Promised Land unfolds, so Moses' inner journey is laid bare. The inner journey brings as many challenges as the external escape from the Egyptians and the wandering through the desert. With its moments of darkness and confusion, despair and loss, as well as glimmers of hope and understanding, this is a process of slow, often painful and almost always paradoxical integration that eventually leads Moses to the heart of God.
