Moody. Reckless. Impractical. Insecure. Distracted. These are all
words commonly used to describe adolescents. But what if we recast
these traits in a positive light? Teens possess insight, passion,
idealism, sensitivity, and creativity in abundance-all qualities
that can make a significant positive contribution to society. In
this thought-provoking book, Thomas Armstrong looks at the power
and promise of the teenage brain from an empathetic, strength-based
perspective-and describes what middle and high school educators can
do to make the most of their students' potential. Thoroughly
grounded in current neuroscience research, the book explains what
we know about how the adolescent brain works and proposes eight
essential instructional elements that will help students develop
the ability to think, make healthy choices, regulate their
emotions, handle social conflict, consolidate their identities, and
learn enough about the world to move into adulthood with dignity
and grace. Armstrong provides practical strategies and real-life
examples from schools that illustrate these eight key practices in
action. In addition, you'll find a glossary of brain terms, a
selection of brain-friendly lesson plans across the content areas,
and a list of resources to support and extend the book's ideas and
practices. There is a colossal mismatch between how the adolescent
brain has evolved over the millennia and the passive, rote learning
experiences that are all too common in today's test-obsessed
educational climate. See the amazing difference-in school and
beyond-when you use the insights from this book to help students
tap into the power of their changing brains.

Triple bill of horror movies. 'Hiding' (2012) stars Ana Villafañe
as a young woman attempting to begin a new life following the
brutal murder of her parents. Taken into the care of a witness
protection programme, a new identity is established for Jo
(Villafañe) in Montana and she leaves her home in New York and her
past life behind. Unfortunately, when a man known as Mr Ostrog
(Dean Armstrong) appears and begins to take an interest in her, Jo
could be forgiven for thinking that the protection programme has
failed to keep her identity safe from the man she is due to testify
against. In 'The Victim' (2011) Annie (Jennifer Blanc)'s camping
trip with her friend, Mary (Danielle Harris), goes disastrously
wrong when Mary is savagely attacked and Annie witnesses her
murder. As she flees through the woods from pursuers Harrison (Ryan
Honey) and Cooger (Denny Kirkwood), Annie comes across a small
cabin inhabited by the loner Kyle (Michael Biehn), but will he help
her or hinder her? 'Beneath the Dark' (2010) is a psychological
thriller from first-time director Chad Feehan. Driving through the
Mojave Desert on their way to the wedding of an old college friend,
Paul and Adrienne (Josh Stewart and Jamie-Lynn Sigler) stop for the
night at Roy's Motel. Confronted by a surreal atmosphere and their
equally strange hosts, Frank and Sandy (Chris Browning and Angela
Featherstone), Paul begins to feel uneasy about his new
surroundings and wonders what lies in store for them.
A new concept on human diversity has emerged over the past 10 years
that promises to revolutionize the way educators provide services
to students with special needs: neurodiversity. Just as we
celebrate diversity in nature and cultures, so too do we need to
honor the diversity of brains among our students who learn, think,
and behave differently. In Neurodiversity in the Classroom,
best-selling author Thomas Armstrong argues that we should embrace
the strengths of such neurodiverse students to help them and their
neurotypical peers thrive in school and beyond. This innovative
book focuses on five categories of special needs: learning
disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism,
intellectual disabilities, and emotional and behavioral disorders.
For each category, Armstrong provides an in-depth discussion of:
The positive attributes associated with that category. Acclaimed
neurodiverse adults who have excelled in their chosen fields.
Computer programs and applications that allow students with special
needs to overcome obstacles and achieve success. Rich networks of
human resources both inside and outside of school that educators
can draw upon to support the social and emotional lives of
neurodiverse students. Innovative learning strategies that are
tailored to each student's unique strengths. Future career paths
for which a student's particular gifts might be a good fit.
Modifications in the school environment that allow for seamless
inclusion of neurodiverse students in the regular classroom. Timely
information about how to integrate the strategies and assessments
for each category with the Common Core State Standards. It's time
that we focused on celebrating rather than pathologizing our
students with special needs so that they can fully realize their
potential in school and life. This practical and thought-provoking
book will inspire teachers and administrators everywhere to make
sure that all students with special needs get the support and
strength-based instruction they deserve.
The Hangover (2009)
Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis star as three friends who lose their best friend, Doug (Justin Bartha), just 40 hours before his wedding during the various drunken misadventures that occur at his Las Vegas bachelor party. The trio must attempt to retrace all the bad decisions they made
the night before and figure out where things went wrong.
The Hangover: Part 2 (2011)
Alan (Galifianakis), Doug (Bartha), Phil (Cooper) and Stu (Helms) jet out to Bangkok for Stu's wedding to his Thai girlfriend (Jamie Chung). With the mortifying memories of Doug's bachelor party in Las Vegas forever etched in everyone's minds, Stu decides to play things safe. Surely nothing can go wrong with a sedate pre-wedding brunch... or can it? The supporting cast includes Liam Neeson and Juliette Lewis, while former president Bill Clinton makes a cameo appearance.
Baton Rouge is known for its rich history, food, politics, music
and universities. Perhaps overlooked are the stories of how this
large port city's close-knit neighborhoods have adapted to changes
over the years. Annabelle Armstrong deftly navigates the evolution
of these historic communities, showcasing southern charm and
romanticism through firsthand accounts of people who call these
places home. Journey back to the beginnings of Hundred Oaks,
Capital Heights, University Acres, Wimbledon, Tara, Inniswold,
Glenwood, Walnut Hills, Stratford, Steele Place, Broussard,
Southdowns and many more popular places to settle down.
This thoughtful book provides a refreshing, comparative perspective
on the future of care homes in our post-pandemic world. Building on
more than a decade of collaborative international and
interdisciplinary research in Canada, Germany, Norway, Sweden, the
UK and the US, it employs a feminist political economy framework to
address the key challenges facing care homes in this turbulent era.
With particular attention to lessons learned in Canada, Sweden, and
Norway, the contributing authors argue that publicly-funded care
homes remain critical to care arrangements but require policy and
practice transformations to produce equitable and supportive
conditions. Attentive to the specific contexts and tensions that
shape care, chapters address key questions about care home quality
and labour in relation to gender, race, ethnicity, religion and
class. The book analyses the physical and social boundaries that
set the conditions for quality of life and care, moving beyond the
minimum to explain how nursing homes can provide joy. Offering
alternative approaches to the complex challenges facing this vital
public service, this book will be a key reference for students and
scholars of health policy, comparative social policy and social
work. Its integration of statistical, policy and practice analysis
with ethnographic research will prove invaluable to those concerned
with long-term care policy and practice.
The Man Who Inspired the World's Fastest-Growing Religion
"Muhammad" presents a fascinating portrait of the founder of a
religion that continues to change the course of world history.
Muhammad's story is more relevant than ever because it offers
crucial insight into the true origins of an increasingly
radicalized Islam. Countering those who dismiss Islam as fanatical
and violent, Armstrong offers a clear, accessible, and balanced
portrait of the central figure of one of the world's great
religions.
Finally Fyreback settles into a proper job. Bringing rough justice
to all who are oppressed in these troubled times, and the Law such
as it is, has no legal jurisdiction. He learns a few extra skills
on the way, diplomacy doesna t seem to be one of them, but be sure
his Cleaver plays ita s part. Will this be the wind down to a
stable married life and family. Again who can say, now possessing a
Wife and Child with another to yet be born, peace and quiet will
return to the Border with a new Monarch to rule both Scotland and
England under one Crown, but that is still a few years ahead.

Alex Gibney directs this documentary exploring the controversial
career of American cyclist Lance Armstrong. Gibney followed
Armstrong, a seven-time Tour de France champion, on his return to
racing in 2009. Armstrong's goal in returning was to defy
persistent allegations that his past victories were in part due to
doping, but in 2012 he was handed a lifetime ban from cycling after
being found guilty of taking performance-enhancing drugs, something
he finally admitted in 2013. The documentary includes interviews
with Armstrong, who offers his side of the story, as well as
contributions from cycling contemporaries and those who follow the
sport.
