Since the founding of California's El Pueblo de San JosAA(c) de
Guadalupe in 1777, people of Mexican ancestry have contributed to
make San JosAA(c) a rich cultural, political, and economic
epicenter. Mexican miners who worked in the local mines helped San
JosAA(c) become one of the top mercury producers in the world. In
the 20th century, Mexicans labored in the "Valley of Heart's
Delight," as the Santa Clara Valley region was called, picking,
canning, drying, and packaging fruits and vegetables for America's
dinner table. They paid homage to their cultural heritage as they
formed ballet folklAA3rico groups, established mariachi bands,
painted murals, and wrote literature. Through grassroots organizing
and collective action, countless heroines and heroes, such as labor
leader Cesar Chavez, dedicated their lives to improving conditions
in their neighborhoods and communities. In 1999, the City of San
JosAA(c) acknowledged the contributions of Mexicans with the grand
opening of the Mexican Heritage Plaza, a cultural center for the
performing arts.

Adam Rodgers directs this romantic comedy starring Andy Garcia and
Vera Farmiga. Single parents George (Garcia) and Edith (Farmiga)
meet when they accompany their children to an admissions tour of
Middleton University. Heart surgeon George, who is with his son
Conrad (Spencer Lofranco), seems somewhat uptight, which initially
leads to a clash of personalities with carefree Edith and her
daughter Audrey (Taissa Farmiga). However, as the day progresses
and the pair get to know each other better, sparks begin to ignite.
But with the tour only set to last the day, will their connection
have a chance to develop?
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
Many metal songs incorporate poetry into their lyrics using a broad
array of techniques, both textual and musical. This
book develops a novel adaptation, appropriation, and
quotation taxonomy that both expands our knowledge of how poetry is
used in metal music and is useful for scholars across adaptation
studies broadly. The text follows both a quantitative and a
qualitative approach. It identifies 384 metal songs by 224 bands
with intertextual ties to 146 poems written by fifty-one different
poets, with a special focus on Edgar Allan Poe, John Milton's
Paradise Lost and the work of WWI's War Poets. This analysis
of transformational mechanisms allows poetry to find an afterlife
in the form of metal songs and sheds light on both the adaptation
and appropriation process and on the semantic shifts occasioned by
the recontextualisation of the poems into the metal music culture.
Some musicians reuse – and sometimes amplify – old verses
related to politics and religion in our present times; others
engage in criticism or simple contradiction. In some cases, the
bands turn the abstract feelings evoked by the poems into concrete
personal experiences. The most adventurous recraft the original
verses by changing the point of view of either the poetic voice or
the addressed actors, altering the vocaliser of the narrative or
the gender of the protagonists. These mechanisms help metal
musicians make the poems their own and adjust them to their
artistic needs so that the resulting product is consistent with the
expectations of the metal music culture.
Focusing on films from Chile since 2000 and bringing together
scholars from South and North America, Chilean Cinema in the
Twenty-First-Century World is the first English-language book since
the 1970s to explore this small, yet significant, Latin American
cinema. The volume questions the concept of "national cinemas" by
examining how Chilean film dialogues with trends in genre-based,
political, and art-house cinema around the world, while remaining
true to local identities. Contributors place current Chilean cinema
in a historical context and expand the debate concerning the
artistic representation of recent political and economic
transformations in contemporary Chile. Chilean Cinema in the
Twenty-First-Century World opens up points of comparison between
Chile and the ways in which other national cinemas are negotiating
their place on the world stage. The book is divided into five
parts. "Mapping Theories of Chilean Cinema in the Worl"" examines
Chilean filmmakers at international film festivals, and political
and affective shifts in the contemporary Chilean documentary. "On
the Margins of Hollywood: Chilean Genre Flicks" explores on the
emergence of Chilean horror cinema and the performance of martial
arts in Chilean films. "Other Texts and Other Lands: Intermediality
and Adaptation Beyond Chile(an Cinema)" covers the intermedial
transfer from Chilean literature to transnational film and from
music video to film. "Migrations of Gender and Genre" contrasts
films depicting transgender people in Chile and beyond.
"Politicized Intimacies, Transnational Affects: Debating
(Post)memory and History" analyzes representations of Chile's
traumatic past in contemporary documentary and approaches mourning
as a politicized act in postdictatorship cultural production.
Intended for scholars, students, and researchers of film and Latin
American studies, Chilean Cinema in the Twenty-First-Century World
evaluates an active and emergent film movement that has yet to
receive sufficient attention in global cinema studies.
The overall design and strategies that create work systems within
organizations must be evaluated and analyzed in order to ensure
that all structures of a company are properly harmonized.
Harmonizing all aspects of a company serves to optimize workflow
and support all interactions between employees, machines, and
software utilized by the company. Advanced Macroergonomics and
Sociotechnical Approaches for Optimal Organizational Performance
provides emerging research exploring the theoretical and practical
aspects of system harmonization and applications within
macroergonomics. Featuring coverage on a broad range of topics such
as stress-related conditions, organizational culture, and worker
health, this book is ideally designed for ergonomists, human
resource professionals, manufacturing engineers, industrial
engineers, industrial designers, researchers, industry
practitioners, research scientists, and academics seeking current
research on the optimization of workflow and work systems.
Recent years have witnessed the rise of analysis of real-world
massive and complex phenomena in graphs; to efficiently solve these
large-scale graph problems, it is necessary to exploit high
performance computing (HPC), which accelerates the innovation
process for discovery and invention of new products and procedures
in network science. Creativity in Load-Balance Schemes for
Multi/Many-Core Heterogeneous Graph Computing: Emerging Research
and Opportunities is a critical scholarly resource that examines
trends, challenges, and collaborative processes in emerging fields
within complex network analysis. Featuring coverage on a broad
range of topics such as high-performance computing, big data,
network science, and accelerated network traversal, this book is
geared towards data analysts, researchers, students in information
communication technology (ICT), program developers, and academics.
