Islam in the School of Madina Mufid al-'Ibad, of which this book is a translation, is a summation of all the previous commentaries on the work of Ibn 'Ashir on Ash'ari 'aqida, Maliki fiqh and Junaydi tasawwuf and is augmented not infrequently by the author's own subtle understanding of the finer aspects of the 'amal of the people of Madina. Ahmad ibn al-Bashir al-Qalawi ash-Shinqiti Shaykh Ahmad bin al-Bashir al-Qalawi ash-Shinqiti (1216 AH/1802 CE- 1276 AH/1853 CE), whose lineage can be traced to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, came from a family and tribe in present day Mauritania renowned for its knowledge and active implementation of the deen. Although he himself refrained from any sufic commentary on Ibn Ashir's work, he was recognised as a wali by the men of this science around him. Dr. Asadullah Yate Dr Yate (Cantab.) has translated works from Arabic, Persian, German and French, and, in collaboration with others, from Turkish. He teaches Arabic and Fiqh at the Weimar Institute, is a Founding fellow of The Muslim Faculty of Advanced Studies, and is active on the shariat board of the World Islamic Mint.

The Secret Garden (Paperback): Mahmud Shabistari The Secret Garden (Paperback)
Mahmud Shabistari; Translated by Asadullah Yate
R290 Discovery Miles 2 900 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Secret Garden This work is important in that it contains all the principles of the science of tasawwuf in a concise form. Furthermore, it is the first translation freed of the centuries-old baggage of christian and orientalist vocabulary which has often obscured the teachings of Islam. Thus, instead of the 'mystic' statements of a 'Sufi Doctor', we have Shaykh Mahmud Shabistari's lucid exposition of the deen of Islam. He demonstrates in his analysis of the lower self how a man or woman can gain access to his or her reality: the step by step description of the method of purification leads to a spirituality and light which issues from the normal actions of everyday life, in other words a spirituality which is not 'ascetic' but rather the product of right living. Mahmud Shabistari (1288 - 1340) Shaykh Mahmud Shabistari lived in the Mughal capital of Tabriz from where issued the great flowering of the last period of Islam in which the balanced shariat was still the norm rather than the mongrel child of European law - applicable to the realm of 'real life' and trade - and 'religious' law - applicable to births, deaths, and family law. Dr. Asadullah Yate Dr. Yate (Cantab.) has translated works from Arabic, Persian, German and French, and, in collaboration with others, from Turkish. He teaches Arabic and Fiqh at the Weimar Institute, is a Founding fellow of The Muslim Faculty of Advanced Studies, and is active on the shariat board of the World Islamic Mint.

Asadullah Yate
R174 Discovery Miles 1 740 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Fair Trading This work fills the pressing need for a small but concise work on the fiqh of trade. While it does not cover everything in great detail, it is a very valuable outline of this much neglected area, in a non-specialist language that should be accessible to any Muslim who engages in trade. Dr. Asadullah Yate Dr. Yate (Cantab.) has translated works from Arabic, Persian, German and French, and, in collaboration with others, from Turkish. Among his published works are Ibn Rushd, Mujtahid of Europe, containing his translation of the chapters on usury from Bidayat al-Mujtahid. He teaches Arabic and Fiqh at the Weimar Institute, is a Founding Fellow of The Muslim Faculty of Advanced Studies, and is active on the shariat board of the World Islamic Mint.

Al-Murshid al-Mu'een is a widely recognised primary text for learning Islam in North Africa. This is its first complete translation into English. Dr. Asadullah Yate is also the translator of Shaykh Ahmad bin al-Bashir al-Qalawi ash-Shinqiti's (1216 AH/1802 CE- 1276 AH/1853 CE) Mufid al-'Ibad, a very full commentary on al-Murshid al-Mu'een, which is published by Diwan Press in English as "Islam in the School of Madina."
