Public Transport Planning and Management in Developing Countries (Hardcover): Ashish Verma, T V Ramanayya Public Transport Planning and Management in Developing Countries (Hardcover)
Ashish Verma, T V Ramanayya
R2,887 Discovery Miles 28 870 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Developing Countries Have Different Transportation Issues and Requirements Than Developed Countries An efficient transportation system is critical for a country's development. Yet cities in developing countries are typically characterized by high-density urban areas and poor public transport, as well as lack of proper roads, parking facilities, road user discipline, and control of land use, resulting in pollution, congestion, accidents, and a host of other transportation problems. Public Transport Planning and Management in Developing Countries examines the status of urban transport in India and other developing countries. It explains the principles of public transport planning and management that are relevant and suitable for developing countries, addresses current transportation system inefficiencies, explores the relationship between mobility and accessibility, and analyzes the results for future use. Considers Socioeconomic and Demographic Characteristics It's projected that by 2030, developing nations will have more vehicles than developed nations, and automated guided transit (AGT) and other transport systems will soon be available in India. This text compares five cities using specific indicators-urbanization, population growth, vehicle ownership, and usage. It determines demographic and economic changes in India, and examines how these changes have impacted transportation demand and supply, transport policy and regulations, and aspects of economics and finance related to public transport. The authors emphasize preserving and improving existing modes, efficient use of the public transport management infrastructure, implementing proper planning measures, and encouraging a shift towards sustainable modes. They also discuss sustainability in terms of environment, energy, economic, and land use perspectives and consider the trends of motorization, vehicle growth, modal share, effects on mobility and environment, and transport energy consumption and emissions. Public Transport Planning and Management in Developing Countries addresses the growing resource needs and economics of public transport in developing countries, explains various aspects of public transport planning and management, and provides readers with a basic understanding of both urban and rural public transport planning and management in developing countries.

Animal Biotechnology - Models in Discovery and Translation (Hardcover): Ashish Verma, Anchal Singh Animal Biotechnology - Models in Discovery and Translation (Hardcover)
Ashish Verma, Anchal Singh
R2,822 Discovery Miles 28 220 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

"Animal Biotechnology" introduces applications of animal biotechnology and implications for human health and welfare. It begins with an introduction to animal cell cultures and genome sequencing analysis and provides readers with a review of available cell and molecular tools. Topics here include the use of transgenic animal models, tissue engineering, nanobiotechnology, and proteomics. The book then delivers in-depth examples of applications in human health and prospects for the future, including cytogenetics and molecular genetics, xenografts, and treatment of HIV and cancers. All this is complemented by a discussion of the ethical and safety considerations in the field.

Animal biotechnology is a broad field encompassing the polarities of fundamental and applied research, including molecular modeling, gene manipulation, development of diagnostics and vaccines, and manipulation of tissue. Given the tools that are currently available and the translational potential for these studies, animal biotechnology has become one of the most essential subjects for those studying life sciences.
Highlights the latest biomedical applications of genetically modified and cloned animals with a focus on cancer and infectious diseasesProvides firsthand accounts of the use of biotechnology tools, including molecular markers, stem cells, andtissue engineering"

This book presents a sequential modelling approach for an integrated urban public transport planning. The methodology consists of three models viz. rail transit corridor identification, feeder route generation, and integrated scheduling models. The 1st model was developed to identify the new urban rail transit corridor using GIS, which is optimum from both users' and operators' point of view. In the model for feeder route generation, the feeder routes are generated in two levels, the first level generates the initial set of shortest paths and in the second level, search is made around these corridors to select one route combination out of all possible routing configurations. The integrated scheduling model consists of two sub-models; the train scheduling sub-model which was used to obtain optimal frequencies for train operation on the newly identified corridors, and the schedule co-ordination sub-model to co-ordinate the schedules of feeder bus routes of each station with the train schedules. The testing of the proposed methodology is done on the case study area of Thane City, which is a part of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), India.
