Lyman Hall is a tale of how Cole Damon and his delightfully
wonderful wife along with their house full of energetic teenaged
children navigate through all the pitfalls modern day life has to
offer. With God as their watchful shepherd, they do their best to
live their lives in a manner in which they love each other as well
as their many friends and neighbors. The Damon Clan clings to each
other through the many mishaps their paths inevitably cross. For
whatever reason, Cole and his family are living in what seems to be
a continuous whirlwind of life, a wonderful whirlwind. Their
extended family and assortment of friends is a true melting pot of
unusual but warm and colorful characters. Each and every one of
them is guaranteed to find a warm spot in the reader's heart. As
exciting as this story is, it is only half the book. There is a
completely separate story also contained within these pages. It is
the historical saga of Cole's ancestors. It is about how they
survived the aftermath of the civil war way down in Georgia. These
two stories mesh together and tell the tale of how Cole Damon's
family has handed down a very special old trunk through the
generations. It is the secrets this old trunk contains that make up
the real heart of their story. Although these two stories are
fictional, they portray the factual events of our forefathers. Come
along with Cole and his special family as they live their lives,
learn about their ancestors and finally discover what secrets are
hidden within the special trunk they discover hidden in their very
own attic. Come with them as they learn about a piece of American
history that is little known to most Americans.
Southern Patriots is a double edged sword. First, is the story of
James Hall. The setting for this story comes right out of the
annals of history. The protagonist is an officer for the
Confederacy in the American Civil War. With the Siege of Vicksburg
as a backdrop, the story unfolds giving the reader a good insight
as to the makeup and character of the brute of a man named James
Hall. It is his inner strength which holds a war torn world
together not only for himself, but also for everyone in his shadow.
Unfortunately, James's shadow is cast over a world of irony. Even
though this story portrays the historical events surrounding the
North's conquest for the sleepy river port town of Vicksburg, it is
not only one of war. It also allows the reader a peek inside the
inner thoughts of a battle hardened warrior. Second, is the
continuing saga of Cole Damon. As usual, Cole is besieged with an
assortment of problems. Most of these problems are caused by a
plethora of odd ball characters which are either his family or
friends. Of course, some of the situations Cole finds himself mired
up in are brought on by his own antics. Whether these problems come
from his defending himself from his family and friends or just
attempting a few Good Samaritan acts on his own, the story is how
Cole attempts to solve these problems while still maintaining some
semblance of balance in his life. Together, these two stories merge
providing a good accounting of the tempered mettle such as true
southern gentlemen are made of. These stories also define a new
element of patriotism. This definition eclipses the time honored
idea of a patriot being a defender of ones nationality or flag.
Sometimes our lives can turn upside down by a few twists of fate. A
person can find himself cruising through life in a comfortable
manner, only to find themselves suddenly rooted out of their
comfortable little rut by a few unforeseen circumstances. This is
the story of one such person. Life throws our hero a curve and he
suddenly finds himself divorced and alienated from his children.
This is the story of his struggles to navigate the potholes in the
road he takes to rebuild his shattered life. A funny thing about
twists of fate ---- sometimes when they come to call it turns our
lives right side up.
Lost Marsh ---- the second novel in the continuing saga of Cole
Damon. Once again, our hero finds himself involved in a web of
romance, adventure, hilarious intrigue and mystery. Cole is just a
man who is quite content to live his life in a laid back peaceful
manner. He is happy to let the fast paced world in which we live
just pass him by. A house full of high energy teenagers ---- a
delightfully pregnant wife ---- a cantankerous mother in law ----
the local bad guy ---- his ex wife ---- a gorgeous she-devil ---- a
fanatical mayor ---- a very special aunt and uncle ---- a best
friend ---- all make sure his life is anything but quiet and
peaceful. Cole is constantly up to his elbows with problems and
special situations, the kind that drives us all crazy in our
everyday lives. Most of which are humorous and harmless ---- until
he makes a discovery. Our hero makes a discovery that will turn his
world upside down. He makes a discovery so hideous and gruesome,
that it threatens to totally consume his sanity. It takes all his
courage and inner strength to face this horrible twist of fate.
Sometimes the lessons we learn in life give us more knowledge than
we really want. The question is can we handle this knowledge, and
what do we do with it. It is in this sense that Cole is of a
special caliber. He finds himself responding to his twist of fate
with the knowledge of knowing he is in a situation way over his
head. He knows his peaceful little existence is over, but he cannot
turn his back on fate. He has to face it head on.
Foreign Rumors ---- the third novel in the continuing saga of Cole
Damon. The town of Mumford is held in a tight grip of fear. Fear of
what the foreigner contingency that has invaded their rural
community represents. Rumors soon begin to emerge out of this fear.
The rumor cauldron of Mumford brews a concoction of delicious
southern lore. Who are these foreigners? Where did they come from?
Why are they here? What do they want? What are they up to? Rumors
emerge from the local townsfolk explaining each and every question
concerning the foreigners. Unfortunately, rumors have a tendency to
skew reality. Rumors can turn simple unknowns into fantastic
revelations of delicious irony. Cole Damon must once again put
aside his peaceful life of innocent blissful obscurity. He must
take up the challenge of discovering the truth about the foreigners
living in his community. He must put all the rumors about the
foreigners to rest before these rumors can cause real harm to his
family and friends. The trouble is, there are many other things
distracting Cole. He hardly has time to concentrate on this
perceived new threat to his family and community. Once again,
Cole's very special wife, his brood of high energy teenagers and an
assortment of colorful friends and family keep Cole on his toes. A
new church must be built. A new phone company must be given birth.
A very special model must be identified. Is Cole up to the
challenge? Foreign Rumors ---- a delightful adventure and romantic
mystery.
