Catherine has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable
father, Robert. When he dies she has more than grief to deal with:
there's her estranged sister, Claire, and Hal, a former student of
her father's who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks
that Robert left behind. And a further problem: how much of her
father's madness - or genius - will Catherine inherit? Gwyneth
Paltrow starred in this Pultizer Prize-winning play which opened at

This book utilises conversation analysis (CA) and discursive
psychology (DP) methodologies to examine the internal workings of
multi-disciplinary teams which are concerned with the care,
treatment and diagnosis of clients with complex mental health
needs. Bringing together practitioners, service users and
researchers who were part of the MDTsInAction research project, the
authors offer a unique and systematic investigation into the ways
members of multidisciplinary teams collaboratively manage their
shared goals. A particular focus is on the language used in team
meetings, and how examination of meeting talk can help us better
understand the practice of inter-professional working. The authors
also describe how a range of institutional barriers and concerns
needed to be tackled in implementing the study in a healthcare
setting. Over the course of this book they reveal a number of
methodological developments which will be of interest to
researchers and academics in CA/DP, and in healthcare communication
generally. This book highlights how CA and DP can be used to
identify and improve communicative practices in a healthcare
setting; and also serves as an example of how to conduct an applied
CA/DP project in a way that achieves impact.
Long gone are the good old days when a cat's biggest worries were
mean dogs or a bath. Modern cats must confront satanists, online
predators, the possibility of needing to survive in a
post-apocalyptic wasteland, and countless other threats to their
nine lives. For over four decades, the American Association of
Patriots have stood at the vanguard of our country's defense by
helping to prepare our nation's cat owners for the difficult
conversations they dread having with their pets. Written in a
simple Q&A format, HOW TO TALK TO YOUR CAT ABOUT GUN SAFETY
answers crucial questions such as, 'What is the right age to talk
to my cat about the proper use of firearms?' and 'What are the
benefits of my cat living a lifestyle of abstinence?' and
especially 'Why does my cat need to use the internet? Can't he just
play with yarn like cats used to do?' America - and our cats -
stand at a precipice. It will take courage, and it will take hard
work, but armed with the knowledge within these pages, we can make
our cats - and America - great again!
Lillie Claire Glidden is unraveling. She knows she's in trouble
when she finds her wallet and keys deep in the refrigerator,
smelling of lettuce and forgetfulness. And not even her favorite
California red wine can dull the pain of the dreaded diagnosis:
Alzheimer's. As language starts to fail her and words disappear,
Lillie Claire is determined to find a way to pass on the lessons
she learned as a child on a Southern porch. Surrounded by family
and caregivers, she fights to hold on to the details of her life,
and to recognize the woman in the mirror for as long as possible.
Told from Lillie Claire's perspective, All the Dancing Birds offers
beautiful and terrifying insight into the secret mind of those
touched-and ultimately changed-by the mystery of Alzheimer's
disease.

Most organizations with a web presence build and operate APIs; the
doorway for customers to interact with the company's services.
Designing, building, and managing these critical programs affect
everyone in the organization, from engineers and product owners to
C-suite executives. But the real challenge for developers and
solution architects is creating an API platform from the ground up.
With this practical book, you'll learn strategies for building and
testing REST APIs that use API gateways to combine offerings at the
microservice level. Authors James Gough, Daniel Bryant, and Matthew
Auburn demonstrate how simple additions to this infrastructure can
help engineers and organizations migrate to the cloud; and open the
opportunity to connect internal services using technologies like a
service mesh. Learn API fundamentals and architectural patterns for
building an API platform Explore evolving trends such as
asynchronous and streaming APIs Help drive your API program by
performing an informed architectural role Build and configure key
components of an API platform Deploy gateways and service meshes
based on case studies Understand core security and vulnerabilities
in API architecture Secure data and services using OAuth 2.0, TLS,
and web application firewalls
In the Commonwealth, the principle of legal professional privilege
has been treated as almost sacrosanct and in consequence,
derogations from it have been rare. The traditional view is that,
despite resulting unfairness, the rule must be absolute in order to
achieve its stated goals. This view is challenged here through an
examination of the structure of and exceptions to the privilege.
Auburn argues that the claims made of the rule in the past have
been overstated and that the privilege is more robust than widely
assumed. Being dependent on patterns of client behaviour, it can
accommodate change, while still fulfilling its essential function.
Having examined the theory, structure and main derogations from the
privilege, the author asserts that we should be more sceptical of
the claims made of the privilege, and in appropriate circumstances
should give more weight to the values underlying the disclosure of
evidence. This thoughtful analysis presents a new approach to the
issue of legal professional privilege. It offers a thorough
exploration of the principles underlying the privilege and takes a
Commonwealth-wide approach, covering the law in England, Australia,
Canada, New Zealand and South Africa, as well as drawing on
relevant principles from European and United States law. Contents

Break free from your usual routine and find adventure in your own
neighborhood with this official field guide to the popular
Randonautica app. Randonauts everywhere are exploring the world
outside of their usual daily routes and expanding their previous
understandings of the mind-matter connection. They are finding that
once they arrive, there is often an eerily spot-on connection to
the intention they set before generating the coordinates. Or they
simply discover a place they haven't been before. In The Official
Guide to Randonautica, the creators of the popular app explain how
the intentions from the user translate to randomly generated
coordinates, and all the theories about why users' set intentions
can be so closely related to what they find at the given location.
This book gives you the opportunity to log your experiences so you
can make the most of what you discover on these journeys. Whether
you're a new randonaut or a seasoned expert, this book is the
perfect field guide for your next adventure.
Covering all of the substantive grounds on which a claim may be
brought, this definitive new work provides unrivalled analysis and
guidance on the law of judicial review. Written by three
experienced practitioners, Judicial Review: Principles and
Procedure includes chapters on the most common grounds for bringing
a claim, such as procedural fairness and irrationality, but also
covers emerging grounds such as delay on the part of public bodies
and error of fact. In addition, the authors provide a separate,
detailed treatment of areas such as administrative policies and the
public sector equality duty. Each element of this complex area of
law is carefully broken down to ensure that answers are always easy
to find and, where the law is in doubt, the dispute is concisely
stated and the view most likely to be preferred by the courts is
expressed. The book analyses in detail the issues that are likely
to arise in practice, with thorough and up-to-date reference to
case law throughout. It incorporates the jurisprudence arising out
of the Human Rights Act 1998, providing practitioners with a
complete yet practical treatment of each relevant topic. The book
contains comprehensive coverage of procedural matters in each stage
of a claim, from pre-action to costs, and includes a chapter on
European Union law from Marie Demetriou QC of Brick Court Chambers,
providing a uniquely full treatment of all the issues which might
be encountered in practice.
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize
One of the most acclaimed plays of the 1999-2000 season, Proof is a work that explores the unknowability of love as much as it does the mysteries of science.
It focuses on Catherine, a young woman who has spent the last several years caring for her father, Robert, a brilliant mathematician in his youth who, in his later years, was unable to function without her help. His death has brought into her midst both her sister, Claire, who wants to take Catherine back with her to New York so that she can live a normal life for the first time, as well as Hal, a former student of Catherine's father who starts going through dozens of Robert's notebooks, hoping to find some hint of his earlier genius in among the incoherent scribblings. The passion that Hal feels for math both moves and angers Catherine, who, in her exhaustion, is torn between missing her loving but unstable father and resenting the great sacrifices she made for him. For Catherine has inherited at least a part of her father's brilliance—and perhaps some of his instability as well. As she and Hal become attracted to each other, they push at the edges of each other's knowledge, considering not only the unpredictability of genius and the difficulty of achieving a mathematical proof but also exploring the human instinct toward love and trust—and how impossible it is to know for certain when any of these has been attained.
