This book consists of a series of papers that help to unravel the
taxonomy of the phylum Brachiopoda and describe associated marine
communities in the Levant. These faunas inhabited shallow shelf
environments near the boundary of the Indo-African and Tethyan
faunal realms near the Jurassic equator along the southern Tethyan
margin. This research is part of a long term project that aims to
delineate the distribution of brachiopods across faunal realm
boundaries and reconstruct the biogeographic history of the region.
The work provides a more detailed analysis of the endemism that is
characteristic of the faunas of northern Sinai, the Negev and
Jordan, and will also aid in the construction of a biogeographic
framework for Jurassic strata in the Middle East. It represents an
important contribution to our knowledge of the evolution of modern
marine communities because their roots lie in the ecological
diversifications of the Jurassic.
Presents a comprehensive model of integrating individual and family
therapy with clinical examples to illustrate the model. Throughout
the book, the importance of tailoring the structure and process of
therapy to meet the particular needs of specific individuals and
families is emphasized.
Positive psychology tackles the big questions: What does it mean to
live a 'good life'? What helps people to flourish and access their
optimal potential? And how can we increase our capacities for joy,
meaning, and hope? This engaging textbook emphasizes the science of
positive psychology - students don't simply learn about positive
psychology in the abstract, but instead are exposed to the
fascinating research that supports its conclusions.Bridging theory
and practice, this textbook connects up-to-date research with
real-world examples and guides students to apply evidence-based
practices in their own lives. Its comprehensive coverage includes
major new topics, such as spirituality, therapeutic interventions,
mindfulness, and positive relationships. Featured pedagogy includes
'Are You Sure about That?' boxes presenting methodological and
statistical principles in context, and 'Practice Positive
Psychology' activities to extend student learning, while online
resources include lecture slides, a test bank, and an instructor
manual.
Individual and family therapy have developed as separate, often
antagonistic, approaches to clinical work with children,
adolescents, and adults. However, many clinicians have shown that
the integration of individual and family therapy concepts and
techniques has the potential to markedly enhance clinical
assessment and psychotherapeutic treatment of a wide range of
emotional, behavioural, and family interactional problems. This
volume presents a comprehensive model of integrating individual and
family therapy and illuminates the model with clinical examples.
Throughout the book, the importance of tailoring the structure and
process of therapy to meet the particular needs of specific
individuals and families is emphasized. With its meticulously
detailed framework, which integrates individuals and families
concepts, interview formats, and therapeutic techniques, this book
provides the therapist with a systematic and powerful method for
accomplishing this objective.
This laboratory guidebook provides step-by-step procedures that
will aid in the dissection and collection of major organs and
tissues of the most common species of small animals used in
biomedical research. Through extensive use of photographs and
illustrations, the dissector is guided through a complete necropsy
of each species for the purpose of collecting the organs and
tissues routinely examined by pathologists. The techniques
described will enable the technician to perform necropsies on
almost any mammal in a precise and logical sequence, and to
properly collect tissue in order to avoid diagnostic errors.
Morphological differences among the various species are discussed.

Public speaking is one of the most common fears. Few people look
forward to talking in front of others and even fewer do it as
effectively as they could. A career in psychology and its related
fields involves extensive public speaking, so you will need to
learn to do it well. With time and practice, you too can become a
confident and effective presenter. ""Public Speaking for
Psychologists"" is a practical and lighthearted guide to planning,
designing, and delivering a presentation. The first half of the
book covers the nuts-and-bolts of public speaking: preparing a
talk, submitting an abstract, developing your slides, managing
anxiety, handling questions, and preventing public-speaking
disasters. The second half applies these tips to common
presentations, such as research talks, poster presentations, job
talks, and talks to lay audiences. Throughout the book, the authors
- both experienced presenters - offer realistic advice, useful
tips, and humorous stories of embarrassing mistakes they'll never
make again.
The few available books that deal specifically with men's issues
tend to lack a central theoretical focus, are highly psychoanalytic
in content, or simply do not provide specific guidelines for
working with men. This unique and timely volume fills an important
gap in the literature by demonstrating why change is often so
difficult for them. It provides detailed guidelines for helping men
initiate and sustain change in their personal, familial, and
professional lives. The authors' approach is an integration of
several theoretical schools including family systems, humanistic,
experiential, and psychoeducational models. Using a psychosocial
lens, they take men as individuals into account while examining the
different roles males occupy as parents, husbands, workers, and
friends. Separate chapters illustrate how each of these roles
challenges men to confront many of the traditional and
stereotypical messages that they have internalized from boyhood.
The wide range of resulting problems--including depression,
relationship conflicts, workaholism, and parenting
difficulties--are discussed in relation to specific strategies
which clinicians can employ to ameliorate them. Throughout, the
authors use clinical vignettes and case examples to illustrate the
ways practitioners can engage men and help them discover rewards of
emotional vulnerability.
