The authors conducted a long-term project (1992-1996)designed to
provide a comprehensive review of vertebrates (amphibians,
reptiles, birds, and mammals) in four national parks in the eastern
United States. The focus of this report is birds.
The National Park Service determined the need for in-depth
inventorying of bird and mammal populations at Fort Necessity
National Battlefield (FONE) and Friendship Hill National Historic
Site (FRHI) in southwestern Pennsylvania. The objectives of the
bird and mammal inventory project: (1) obtain comprehensive
inventory data on birds and mammals, (2) document occurrence,
identify distribution, and estimate relative abundance of birds and
mammals, and (3) provide guidance for monitoring birds and mammals
at FONE and FRHI.
