This volume - like the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on which it
is based - addresses the fundamental science that contributes to
our understanding of the potential risks from ecological terrorism,
i.e. dirty bombs, atomic explosions, intentional release of
radionuclides into water or air. Both effects on human health (DNA
and systemic effects) and on ecosystems are detailed, with
particular focus on environmentally relevant low-dose ranges. The
state-of-the-art contributions to the book are authored by leading
experts; they tackle the relevant questions from the perspectives
of radiation genetics, radiobiology, radioecology, radiation
epidemiology and risk assessment.
Invaluable clinical and treatment information on the most powerful
mind-altering drugs in use today. Compiled by two leading
professionals from the renowned Haight Ashbury Clinic, the
information is based on national and international studies
undertaken at the clinic, as well as from 600,000 patient visits, a
thorough review of practice and background as reported in the
literature, and from their own private practices. An up-to-date
reference source, this important guide includes information on the
trademark, generic, and popular names of drugs; the use and abuse
of drugs; and their acute and chronic effects. An innovative index
and cross reference system provide quick, easy access for the
physician who must act quickly in an emergency.

Those who recognize that our modern life style is dependent, to a
large extent, on the use of organic polymers as thermal and elec
trical insulators, may be surprised to learn that specific plastics
may also be used as conductors of electricity. In addition to demon
strating the versatility of polymers, this use as conductors will
lead to developments which were not possible with other available
materials of construction. This is a new field which is growing
rapidly because of intensive research and developmental efforts by
many different industrial, governmental and university
investigators. Many of these researchers reported advances in this
art at a symposium on conductive polymers sponsored by the American
Chemical Society's Division of Organic Coatings and Plastics
Chemistry held at the Second Chemical Congress of the North
American Continent at Las Vegas, in August 1980. The proceedings of
this timely symposium are presented in this book. The editor wishes
to take this opportunity to express his grati tude to the authors
who contributed to this book and to the ACS Organic Coatings and
Plastics Division for sponsoring this effort. Raymond B. Seymour

The English legal system in the area of social work with children
and families can be bewildering and complex and it is vital
therefore that any textbook on the subject uses case law, case
studies and research to critically-engage social workers and
students alike. This book does just that - by examining, and
putting into clear practical context, the current law and policy
relating to social work with children and families. A guide for
both students on placement as well as Newly Qualified Social
Workers (NQSWs) entering their first roles within children and
families teams, Practical Child Law for Social Workers is essential
reading for a fast-paced and complex area of social work.
In 1970's Northern Ireland death was as commonplace as fish and
chips. Terrorists from both sides of the divide killed and maimed
the innocent at will. Nowhere was left unscathed, the murderers
tore families apart without a second thought...everyone was a
target. Somehow people struggled on. Two young people in particular
struggled on and somehow became a couple, a couple who would have
to survive the hardest years of their lives in the most dangerous
place on earth. This is a tale of life and love, of hope and
despair and horror during the troubles.

This book builds on Courtroom Skills for Social Workers by updating
the legal and research content and strengthening the material on
recording. It throws light on legal and courtroom processes and
procedures, and encourages social workers to see involvement with
the courts as a positive element of their practice, rather than
something to be afraid of. By encouraging social workers to develop
the skills to perform confidently in the court environment, they
will be better able to support service users faced with court
involvement. This second edition includes contributions from
service users, as well as practice examples, so as to make the book
interesting and relevant for qualified social workers. The book
will assist social workers in meeting their Continuing Professional
Development requirements for continuing registration. It also
offers a framework for short in-service training courses on court
skills and recording, both areas in which social workers'
performance comes under the scr
