The Banbury Cross Series was a collection of 12 volumes of books
edited by Grace Rhys and published in London by Dent in the 1890s.
Each book is attractively illustrated with full page and partial
page pen and ink drawings in a classic Art Nouveau style by leading
artists of the era. This title collates Banbury Cross with many
other familiar nursery rhymes that will delight young and old
alike. Alice B. Woodward's black and white illustrations of sweet
children and quaint, idyllic scenes are a wonderful match for these
timeless poems. Many of the earliest children's books, particularly
those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce
and increasingly expensive. Pook Press are working to republish
these classic works in affordable, high quality editions, using the
original text and artwork so these works can delight another
generation of children.
Instant Andy
Before there was Instagram, there was Warhol
Andy Warhol was a relentless chronicler of life and its encounters. Carrying a Polaroid camera from the late 1950s until his death in 1987, he amassed a huge collection of instant pictures of friends, lovers, patrons, the famous, the obscure, the scenic, the fashionable, and himself. Created in collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation, this book features hundreds of these instant photos.
Portraits of celebrities such as Mick Jagger, Alfred Hitchcock, Jack Nicholson, Yves Saint Laurent, Pele, Debbie Harry are included alongside images of Warhol's entourage and high life, landscapes, and still lifes from Cabbage Patch dolls to the iconic soup cans. Often raw and impromptu, the Polaroids document Warhol's era like Instagram captures our own, offering a unique record of the life, world, and vision behind the Pop Art maestro and modernist giant.

Alone of the great Russian novels of the nineteenth-century, Dead
Souls has remained almost as profound a mystery to critics as it
was when it first appeared. James Woodward disputes the traditional
view of Gogol's work, contending that it is not a sprawling mass of
loosely connected episodes, details, and digressions. His close
reading of the text offers a new interpretation by tracing the
essential features of Gogol's creative method. Although Dead Souls
is a subject of lively debate in almost every respect, no Western
scholar has ever before made it the subject of book-length
analysis. James Woodward's inquiry addresses itself to many
fundamental questions: How is the theme developed? What
characterizes the writer's creative method? Does the structure of
the novel reveal an inner logic? How can the digressive narrative
style be reconciled with generally accepted standards of artistic
unity and coherence? Originally published in 1978. The Princeton
Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again
make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished
backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the
original texts of these important books while presenting them in
durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton
Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly
heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton
University Press since its founding in 1905.

1921. The last literary work by Sir William S. Gilbert tells the
story of The Mikado afresh. A lighthearted burlesque of Victorian
English culture and the vagaries of love, set in a fanciful (and
wholly imaginary) Japanese society. It is one of the most admired
of all the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. See other titles by this
author available from Kessinger Publishing.
