This book presents essential insights on environmental policy
derived from behavioral economics. The authors demonstrate the
potential of behavioral economics to drive environmental protection
and to generate concrete proposals for the efficient design of
policy instruments. Moreover, detailed recommendations on how to
use "nudges" and related instruments to move industry and society
toward a sustainable course are presented. This book addresses the
needs of environmental economists, behavioral economists and
environmental policymakers, as well as all readers interested in
the intersection between behavioral economics and environmental
policy.

Die erste internationale Tagung "Allgemeine Ungleichungen" fand vom
9. bis 15. Mai im Mathematischen Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach
statt.
Tagungssekratar wirkte Herr Ger (Ka.towice). Die ?:{ Teilnehmer
kamen aus Europa, Amerika und Australien. Erfreulicherweise hat
sich eine grtlssere Zahl von Teilnehmern aus Polen eingefunden;
verschiedene Weise beigetragen. Trotzdem bildeten sich einige
Schwerpunkte heraus: Funktionalungleichungen, inbesondere
Since the elassie work on inequalities by HARDY, LITTLEWOOD, and
P6LYA in 1934, an enonnous amount of effort has been devoted to the
sharpening and extension of the elassieal inequalities, to the
discovery of new types of inequalities, and to the application of
inqualities in many parts of analysis. As examples, let us eite the
fields of ordinary and partial differential equations, whieh are
dominated by inequalities and variational prineiples involving
functions and their derivatives; the many applications of linear
inequalities to game theory and mathe- matieal economics, which
have triggered a renewed interest in con- vexity and moment-space
theory; and the growing uses of digital com- puters, which have
given impetus to a systematie study of error esti- mates involving
much sophisticated matrix theory and operator theory. The results
presented in the following pages reflect to some extent these
ramifications of inequalities into contiguous regions of analysis,
but to a greater extent our concem is with inequalities in their
native habitat. Since it is elearly impossible to give a connected
account of the burst of analytic activity of the last twenty-five
years centering about inequalities, we have d. eeided to limit our
attention to those topies that have particularly delighted and
intrigued us, and to the study of whieh we have contributed.
bleibt: Durch was wird Romantik ersetzt?

This volume and its predecessor were conceived to advance the level
of mathematical sophistication in the engineering community. The
books particularly focus on material relevant to solving the kinds
of mathematical problems regularly confronted by engineers.
Suitable as a text for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses
as well as a reference for professionals, Volume Two's three-part
treatment covers mathematical methods, statistical and scheduling
studies, and physical phenomena.
Contributions include chapters on chance processes and fluctuations
by William Feller, Monte Carlo calculations in problems of
mathematical physics by Stanislaw M. Ulam, and circle, sphere,
symmetrization, and some classical physical problems by George
Polya. Additional topics include integral transforms, information
theory, the numerical solution of elliptic and parabolic partial
differential equations, and other subjects involving the
intersection of engineering and mathematics.
This volume and its successor were conceived to advance the level
of mathematical sophistication in the engineering community. The
books particularly focus on material relevant to solving the kinds
of mathematical problems regularly confronted by engineers.
Suitable as a text for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses
as well as a reference for professionals, Volume One's three-part
treatment covers mathematical models, probabilistic problems, and
computational considerations.
Contributions include chapters on linear and nonlinear oscillations
by Solomon Lefschetz, on hyperbolic partial differential equations
and applications by Richard Courant, and on the theory of
prediction by Norbert Wiener. Additional topics include game
theory, applied mathematics in operations research, matrices,
conformal mapping methods, and other subjects involving the
intersection of engineering and mathematics.
