Julian Jarrold directs this British comedy drama following the future Queen of England and her sister as they go out on the town to celebrate the end of the Second World War. On VE Day, 8th May 1945, Princess Elizabeth (Sarah Gadon) and her younger sister Princess Margaret (Bel Powley) beg their parents King George VI (Rupert Everett) and Queen Elizabeth (Emily Watson) to let them leave Buckingham Palace for the night so they can join in the celebrations. Set in the 1970s, the story follows teenager Minnie Goetze (Powley), who embarks on an affair with Monroe (Skarsgård), her mother Charlotte (Wiig)'s boyfriend. As she begins to discover her sexuality and searches for love Minnie keeps a record of her journey in her diary.
