Is the Christian mystical tradition a relic of another time, shaped
by celibates for celibates, unable to engage meaningfully with
people of our time who embrace their corporeality and sexuality as
crucial aspects of their journey towards union with God? This book
reflects in serious theological depth and detail on the spiritual
and sexual journeys of gay men of mature and committed Christian
faith, employing the Christian mystical tradition as the lens and
the interlocutor in this process. This study examines the major
themes and stages of the mystical tradition as outlined by Evelyn
Underhill, but also including more recent work by Ruth Burrows,
Thomas Merton and Constance Fitzgerald. Using methods of
qualitative research, it then considers the texts of in-depth
interviews conducted with men, most of whom are theologians or
spiritual leaders with a deep Catholic faith, and all of whom are
openly, self-affirmingly gay. Finally, it employs Ricoeur's
hermeneutical theory to engage in a creative theological
conversation between the traditional mystical stages and themes and
these men's lives, as described in their interviews. This is a
unique study that brings together ancient spirituality with
contemporary lived religion. As such, it will be of interest to
scholars of religious studies, theology, Christian mysticism and
spirituality, and queer studies. It will be of particular interest
to those teach spiritual direction and to all who seek new ways to
engage with the spiritual lives of LGBTIQ+ people.

A reworking of the key Irish myth exploring the life and loves of
the great Irish hero Cuchulainn, making connections between events
in the story and places in Ireland which can be visited There was a
time in Ireland's history when chivalry and chieftainry ruled the
land, when the country was occupied by bands of warriors who spoke
only their native tongue and who cherished their heritage and
civilization. This was the time of Cuchulainn. All of the warrior
bands had their own Seanachie, a person responsible for recounting
the deeds of times past, a chronicler of the ages. Cuchulainn was
their most famous subject and hundreds of tales of his heroic and
terrifying deeds--such as single-handedly defending Ulster at the
age of 17, and his battle frenzy in which he knows neither ally nor
enemy--have survived to this day. The seminal work on Cuchulainn is
dense and complex. This is an exhilarating new telling of
Cuchulainn for our time, full of valor, passion, and bloodshed.
Around the round table there was always one seat which remained
empty. This was the place left for the knight who would one day
attain the Grail and restore the land. This mysterious piece of
furniture, the Seat Perilous, has been part of Arthurian myth for a
1,000 years. It was the original hot seat - if you sat there and
were not the one, you would be consumed by fire. These are the
untold tales of the knights who went out into the world and the
ladies of the lake they found there. This book follows them into an
unknown interior where they encounter the Queen of the Wasteland
and through her story, return with the greatest prize of all.
