Is there a language of transcendence which does not fall in a classification of monism, theism, personal God or impersonal being? The present collection of contributions from different fields of research centers on the question: if and how far it is possible to talk of transcendence or a divine. This topic follows current religious philosophical discussions touching on the alternatives of monism, theism, pantheism and historically-triune monotheism in a Christian context, concerning the mediation of immanence and transcendence. However, all these terms - developed in the western tradition - can be shown to be inadequate for expressing the different cultural traditions of Asia and their concepts of transcendence. A further aspect of this topic concerns the widely established distinction between personal and impersonal concepts of transcendence. Thus, all contributors take seriously the diversity of historical religious traditions, while nevertheless searching for a religious language that connects these traditions and provides a common ground of understanding.

Im 20. Jahrhundert wurde die katholische Theologie vor allem durch die christliche Okumene herausgefordert. Im 21. Jahrhundert hat sie die Aufgabe, den interreligiosen Dialog zu fuhren. Die Studie beschreibt, untersucht und pruft Raimon Panikkars interreligiose Hermeneutik. Angesichts der Differenzen der Religionssysteme von katholischem Christentum, Hinduismus und Buddhismus werden mogliche funktionale Aquivalente innerhalb dieser drei Religionen gepruft. Abschliessend wird der Nutzen von Raimon Panikkars Dialoghermeneutik fur die aktuelle interreligiose Diskussion erortert. Raimon Panikkar gehort zu den herausragenden Protagonisten des interkulturellen Dialogs zwischen Europa und Asien sowie des interreligiosen Dialogs zwischen katholischem Christentum, Hinduismus und Buddhismus. Bernhard Nitsche, Dr. theol., Dr. phil., Jahrgang 1963, ist Privatdozent fur Dogmatische und Okumenische Theologie. Von 1993 bis 2008 war er wissenschaftlicher Assistent am Lehrstuhl fur Dogmatische Theologie und Dogmengeschichte sowie von 1997 bis 2008 assoziierter Mitarbeiter des Instituts fur Okumenische Forschung der Eberhard-Karls-Universitat Tubingen. Seine Arbeitsschwerpunkte sind Anthropologie, Religionsphilosophie, trinitarische Gotteslehre, Christologie, Ekklesiologie, innerchristliche Okumene und interreligioser Dialog.
