Bilen Emek Abali
R5,044 Discovery Miles 50 440 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book presents the theory of continuum mechanics for mechanical, thermodynamical, and electrodynamical systems. It shows how to obtain governing equations and it applies them by computing the reality. It uses only open-source codes developed under the FEniCS project and includes codes for 20 engineering applications from mechanics, fluid dynamics, applied thermodynamics, and electromagnetism. Moreover, it derives and utilizes the constitutive equations including coupling terms, which allow to compute multiphysics problems by incorporating interactions between primitive variables, namely, motion, temperature, and electromagnetic fields. An engineering system is described by the primitive variables satisfying field equations that are partial differential equations in space and time. The field equations are mostly coupled and nonlinear, in other words, difficult to solve. In order to solve the coupled, nonlinear system of partial differential equations, the book uses a novel collection of open-source packages developed under the FEniCS project. All primitive variables are solved at once in a fully coupled fashion by using finite difference method in time and finite element method in space.

Bilen Emek Abali, Holm Altenbach, Francesco Dell'Isola, Victor A. Eremeyev, Andreas Oechsner
R5,253 Discovery Miles 52 530 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book presents a liber amicorum dedicated to Wolfgang H. Muller, and highlights recent advances in Prof. Muller's major fields of research: continuum mechanics, generalized mechanics, thermodynamics, mechanochemistry, and geomechanics. Over 50 of Prof. Muller's friends and colleagues contributed to this book, which commemorates his 60th birthday and was published in recognition of his outstanding contributions.

Developments and Novel Approaches in Biomechanics and Metamaterials (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020): Bilen Emek Abali, Ivan Giorgio Developments and Novel Approaches in Biomechanics and Metamaterials (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Bilen Emek Abali, Ivan Giorgio
R4,776 Discovery Miles 47 760 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book presents a selection of cutting-edge methods that allow readers to obtain novel models for nonlinear solid mechanics. Today, engineers need more accurate techniques for modeling solid body mechanics, chiefly due to innovative methods like additive manufacturing-for example, 3D printing-but also due to miniaturization. This book focuses on the formulation of continuum and discrete models for complex materials and systems, and especially the design of metamaterials. It gathers outstanding papers from the international conference IcONSOM 2019

Bilen Emek Abali, Ivan Giorgio
R4,778 Discovery Miles 47 780 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book features selected manuscripts presented at ICoNSoM 2019, exploring cutting-edge methods for developing novel models in nonlinear solid mechanics. Innovative methods like additive manufacturing-for example, 3D printing- and miniaturization mean that engineers need more accurate techniques for modeling solid body mechanics. The book focuses on the formulation of continuum and discrete models for complex materials and systems, particularly the design of metamaterials.

Holm Altenbach, Wolfgang H. Muller, Bilen Emek Abali
R2,669 Discovery Miles 26 690 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book discusses recent findings and advanced theories presented at two workshops at TU Berlin in 2017 and 2018. It underlines several advantages of generalized continuum models compared to the classical Cauchy continuum, which although widely used in engineering practice, has a number of limitations, such as: * The structural size is very small. * The microstructure is complex. * The effects are localized. As such, the development of generalized continuum models is helpful and results in a better description of the behavior of structures or materials. At the same time, there are more and more experimental studies supporting the new models because the number of material parameters is higher.
