befassen.   Dieses Buch wird für Forscher,
Studenten, NRO, Berufsverbände, nationale Ministerien,
internationale Organisationen und Rechtsgruppen in den Bereichen
Wirtschaft, öffentliche Finanzen, politische Ökonomie,
Menschenrechte und Flüchtlingsrecht sowie internationale
Beziehungen und Demografie von Interesse sein.
This book analyses the 2018 Global Compact on Migration and the
need for, and difficulties of adopting a multilateral agreement on
migration. Particular attention is given to the challenges and
constraints involved, given not only the divergent needs and
conditions of different counties but also the varying interests of
different groups within countries. A synoptic history of previous
attempts at reaching a multilateral migration agreement is
provided, from 1927 onwards, to give context to the recent
negotiations. The lack of a clear recognition of migration as a
global process and the absence of a firm commitment to
responsibility- sharing arrangements are highlighted. The book
explains why the 2018 migration is both a breakthrough and at the
same time an opportunity lost. In doing so,] it also analyses the
limitations of the present deal, including inadequate attention to
the root causes of forced and disruptive migration in origin
countries, and highlights how the 2018 agreement can be built upon
to create a dynamic harmony in the global migration system. The
book will be relevant to researchers and policy makers as well as
to professionals and activists concerned with migration, labour
economics and international development.
A ground-breaking and sharply insightful book revealing the
wide-ranging effects of the global economic crisis, the Arab Spring
and the ongoing rebalancing of the world economy on international
migration and its configuration. It debunks 'the business as usual'
approach to the future challenge of migration and argues for a new
approach to the issue.
The growth of the services sector in developing countries and their
increased participation in trade in services have far-reaching
implications for promotion of employment and income and management
of international migration. The book brings out these implications
in the context of the Uruguay Round Agreement on Trade in Services
(GATS) and explains how trade-related temporary movements of
persons can be a partial substitute for longer-term migration,
serving the interests of both developed and developing countries in
a more efficient global economy.
This book provides an insightful analysis of the looming refugee
and mixed migration crisis in the context of four major,
contemporary flows: two in west and east Europe, and one each in
the Americas and Asia. The analysis, in each case, is followed by a
judicious identification of the key issues involved and the
presentation of a set of proposed policy responses to them. The
discussion is then placed in a global setting and dovetailed with
the recently launched United Nations initiative to adopt global
compacts on refugees and migrants. The author brings to this book,
the first of its kind, his vast experience of advising, and
actively engaging with, many of the principal international
organisations concerned with refugee and migration issues. This
book will be of interest to researchers, students, NGOs,
professional bodies, national ministries, international
organisations and rights groups in the fields of economics, public
finance, political economy, human rights and refugee law, and
international relations and demography.

The reason for the depth the 2008's global depression lies in the
intractability of modern economic systems. This has led to an
emergence of unprecedented migratory patterns, the analysis and
management of which is key to economic recovery.
This ground-breaking study explores the issues and prospects of a multilateral response to the challenge of international migration. It presents within a single, cohesive framework, the views, perceptions, and critical analyses of a group of eminent specialists drawn from different disciplines but with an in-depth knowledge of migration issues.
