Jacob Boehme (1575-1624) is famous as a shoemaker and spiritual author. His works and thought are frequently studied as a product of his mystical illumination. Jacob Boehme and His World adopts a different perspective. It seeks to demystify Boehme by focusing on aspects of his immediate cultural and social context and the intellectual currents of his time, including Boehme's writing as literature, the social conditions in Goerlitz, Boehme's correspondence networks, a contemporary "crisis of piety," Paracelsian and kabbalistic currents, astrology, astronomy and alchemy, and his relationship to other dissenting authors. Relevant facets of reception include Boehme's philosophical standing, his contributions to pre-Pietism, and early English translations of his works.
The Lund model, inspired by quantum chromodynamics, has provided a promising approach to the dynamics of quark and gluon interactions. Starting with a brief reprise of basic concepts in relativity, quantum mechanics of fields and particle physics, this book discusses: the dynamics of the massless relativistic string; confinement; causality and relativistic covariance; Lund fragmentation processes; QED and QCD Bremsstrahlung; multiplicities and particle-parton distributions. Throughout the book, theory is confronted with current experimental data, and implications for future experiments are also considered. The book also explores the relationships between the Lund model and other models based on field theory (the Schwinger model, S-matrix models, light-cone algebra physics and variations of the parton model), and models based on statistical mechanics (the Feynman-Wilson gas, scaling, iterative cascade models). This title, first published in 1998, has been reissued as an Open Access publication on Cambridge Core.

This volume features a collection of papers on emerging concepts, significant insights, novel approaches and ideas in information systems research. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Perspectives in Business Informatics Research, BIR 2014, held in Lund, Sweden, in September 2014. Overall, 71 submissions were rigorously reviewed by 55 members of the Program Committee representing 22 countries. As a result, 27 full papers have been selected for publication in this volume. The papers cover many aspects of business information research and have been organized in topical sections on: business, people, and systems; business and information systems development; and contextualized evaluation of business informatics.
