Until the publication of this new book there had been a lack of
well-founded guidelines for evaluating concentrations of lead in
soil and its relationship to human health. Thus, much confusion has
existed among regulatory agencies, industries, public health
officials, and the medical community about the evaluation and
remedying of lead-contaminated soils. Lead in Soil: Recommended
Guidelines represents the combined efforts of a multi-disciplinary
international task force from the Society for Environmental
Geochemistry and Health (SEGH) whose members are experts in the
fields of lead pollution and toxicology. It provides an
international consensus concerning environmental lead and blood
lead-especially in children. The task force evaluated the evidence
and made recommendations for guidelines to appraise lead
concentration. It also studied the influence of soil and other
sources of lead on blood lead concentrations. A model was prepared
that allows the user to select appropriate target levels of blood
lead while allowing for a variety of environmental situations or
regulatory criteria.

Are you happy? Are you living the life you've always dreamed about?
If you are like most people, you're probably not overly excited
about anything and don't know why. You're stuck in a rut, drifting
aimlessly through life. How can this happen? It's simple. We live
life haphazardly. We never take the time or make the effort to
define what happiness means to us. We try this or that hoping that
one day we land on the thing or things that will bring us
happiness. However, true happiness is almost impossible to find
through trial and error. True happiness comes through thoughtful
evaluation of our lives by incorporating the things that give us
satisfaction and meaning into the way we live our lives. Clearly
identifying our priorities and freeing up resources to be used on
the things that are most important to us are essential to finding
real happiness. By refocusing our priorities and our limited
resources on the people, activities, and things that give our lives
meaning, we can find the happiness we are seeking.
Being successful at anything in life is not difficult. In fact, it
is scary how simple it can be when you fully understand what it
takes to be successful. When you break success down into its seven
most fundamental elements and begin to focus on the things that are
really important to being successful, success comes naturally. When
we break the fundamentals of success down into its most basic
elements, it unclutters the process and simplifies our path to
success. How does it do this? We falsely believe that to be
successful at anything the process has to be complicated. We've
heard all our life that nothing worth accomplishing is ever easy.
As a result, within a short period of time after we conceive an
idea, we convince ourselves that we're not qualified to accomplish
the thing or things we want to achieve, smart enough to understand
what is involved, or because of its perceived complexity, we don't
have enough time or energy to even try. What do we do? We talk
ourselves out of trying before we even start. Simplicity is the key
to everything in life. Focusing on the fundamentals of success
unclutters the process and simplifies your path. The simpler
anything is, the easier it is to achieve. Focusing on the
fundamentals is the key to being successful at everything you do.

Bobby Langley's high school basketball scoring record has stood for
more than 50 years. Ruby's Son tells how it came to be: trying to
escape alcoholism, tuberculosis and the overcrowded shotgun shack
where he lived, Bobby Langley spent hours and years of his
childhood practicing basketball in the gym of an exclusive private
school thanks to a kind coach. His childhood and high school years
were years of shame and fear about the conditions his family lived
in, and his mother's background as the daughter of illiterate
tenant farmers who happened to be first cousins. Kind and caring
people help Bobby and his family along the way, and he overcomes
the stigma to enter the business world at first based on his
reputation as a high school basketball hot shot.
