This book presents the state-of-the-art, current challenges, and future perspectives for the field of many-criteria optimization and decision analysis. The field recognizes that real-life problems often involve trying to balance a multiplicity of considerations simultaneously – such as performance, cost, risk, sustainability, and quality. The field develops theory, methods and tools that can support decision makers in finding appropriate solutions when faced with many (typically more than three) such criteria at the same time.  The book consists of two parts: key research topics, and emerging topics. Part I begins with a general introduction to many-criteria optimization, perspectives from research leaders in real-world problems, and a contemporary survey of the attributes of problems of this kind. This part continues with chapters on fundamental aspects of many-criteria optimization, namely on order relations, quality measures, benchmarking, visualization, and theoretical considerations. Part II offers more specialized chapters on correlated objectives, heterogeneous objectives, Bayesian optimization, and game theory. Written by leading experts across the field of many-criteria optimization, this book will be an essential resource for researchers in the fields of evolutionary computing, operations research, multiobjective optimization, and decision science.

In the twenty-first century the sustainability of energy and transportation systems is on the top of the political agenda in many countries around the world.

Environmental impacts of human economic activity necessitate the consideration of conflicting goals in decision making processes to develop sustainable systems. Any sustainable development has to reconcile conflicting economic and environmental objectives and criteria. The science of multiple criteria decision making has a lot to offer in addressing this need. Decision making with multiple (conflicting) criteria is the topic of research that is at the heart of the International Society of Multiple Criteria Decision Making. This book is based on selected papers presented at the societies 19th International Conference, held at The University of Auckland, New Zealand, from 7th to 12th January 2008 under the theme "MCDM for Sustainable Energy and Transportation Systems''.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Workshop on Hybrid Metaheuristics, HM 2007, held in Dortmund, Germany, in October 2007.

The 14 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 37 submissions. The papers discuss specific aspects of hybridization of metaheuristics, hybrid metaheuristics design, development and testing. With increasing attention to methodological aspects, from both the empirical and theoretical sides, the papers show a representative sample of research in the field of hybrid metaheuristics. Some papers put special emphasis on the experimental analysis and statistical assessment of results, some are also an example of the integration of metaheuristics with mathematical programming, constraint satisfaction or machine learning techniques.

Es wurden jedoch auch zahlreiche Vorteile der EU-Osterweiterung u.a. von Politikern diskutiert und in den Medien erortert. Um bestehende Angste zu entkraften wurde bspw. die folgenden Vorteile dargestellt: Steigerung des Exportes durch Erschliessung neuer Markte, positive Abfarbungseffekte des Wirtschaftswachstums der Neumitglieder auf das deutsche Wachstum, Aufschwung fur die Bauindustrie auf Grund des erheblichen Anpassungsbedarfs in der Infrastruktur, um nur einige zu nennen. Nun, gut ein Jahr nachdem die grosste Erweiterungsrunde in der Geschichte der EU mit der Aufnahme zehn neuer Mitgliedslander vollzogen wurde, stellt sich die Frage, ob sich diese Hoffnungen und Befurchtungen bewahrheitet haben. Diese Arbeit soll zunachst einen groben Uberblick uber die Inhalte der Beschaftigungspolitik der EU geben, bevor dann die o.g. Hoffnungen und Prognosen detaillierter hinterfragt werden.
