God is a Bullet is the cult classic back in print and soon to be a major motion picture starring Jamie Foxx, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and January Jones. During Christmas week in 1995, a fourteen-year-old girl is kidnapped by a bloodthirsty satanic cult. Bob Hightower, the girl's father and a small-town cop, embarks on a desperate mission to find her, but his only hope lies with Case Hardin, an ex-cult member and ex-junkie living in a half-way house in Hollywood. Their quest - his to find his child, hers to exorcise her demons - becomes a primal hunt-and-chase through a savage subculture of drugs and ritualistic violence . . . 'Not for those of a nervous disposition' - Daily Telegraph 'A rollercoaster of an experience' - Guardian 'The new voice of pulp fiction' - Dennis Lehane 'A kick-ass, in-your-face tour de force' - Harlan Coben 'An absolutely stupendous debut novel' - Mark Timlin, Independent
A twelve-year-old boy stumbles upon a savage murder in a dust strewn trailer lost against the backdrop of the California desert. He reports it to the police, but twenty-five years later, the murder remains unsolved. Then, Detective Bob Hightower's worst fears come true when his fourteen-years-old daughter is kidnapped by a satanic cult, The Left Handed Path. The cult's leader, Cyrus, lives by the motto that murder is the "ultimate freedom." There are no clues to where Hightower's daughter may be, aside from the bloody corpses of her mother and stepfather -- a scene remarkably similar to the one described by a little boy twenty-five years earlier. Hightower must rely on Case Hardin, a hardened ex-cult member, for help. She has her own agenda -- to exorcise the demons of cult membership, drug addiction, and ritualistic violence -- in their search. Together they embark on the chase, hoping to rescue Hightower's daughter and themselves before it's too late. Teran's novel is stunning debut that explores what it means to be in control of yourself, of someone else, of events.
