Acting on behalf of his firm of solicitors, Jonathan Harker travels
to the Carpathian Mountains to finalize the sale of England's
Carfax Abbey to Transylvanian noble Count Dracula. Little does he
realize that, in doing so, he endangers all that he loves. For
Dracula is one of the Un-dead—a centuries-old vampire who sleeps
by day and stalks by night, feasting on the blood of his helpless
victims. Once on English soil, the count sets his sights on
Jonathan's circle of associates, among them his beloved wife
Mina. To thwart Dracula's evil designs, Jonathan and his friends
will have to accept as truth the most preposterous superstitions
concerning vampires, and in the company of legendary vampire hunter
Abraham Van Helsing, embark on an unholy adventure for
which even their worst nightmares have not prepared them.
First published in 1897, Bram Stoker's Dracula established
the ground rules for virtually all vampire fiction written in its
wake. This volume is one of Barnes &
Noble's Collectible Editions classics. Each volume features
authoritative texts by the world's greatest authors in an
exquisitely designed foil-stamped binding, with
distinctive colored edging and an attractive ribbon bookmark.
Decorative, durable, and collectible, these books offer hours of
pleasure to readers young and old and are an indispensable
cornerstone for any home library.

'There he lay looking as if youth had been half-renewed, for the white
hair and moustache were changed to dark iron-grey, the cheeks were
fuller, and the white skin seemed ruby-red underneath; the mouth was
redder than ever, for on the lips were gouts of fresh blood, which
trickled from the corners of the mouth and ran over the chin and neck.
Even the deep, burning eyes seemed set amongst the swollen flesh, for
the lids and pouches underneath were bloated. It seemed as if the whole
awful creature were simply gorged with blood; he lay like a filthy
leech, exhausted with his repletion.'
Thus Bram Stoker, one of the greatest exponents of the supernatural
narrative, describes the demonic subject of his chilling masterpiece
Dracula, a truly iconic and unsettling tale of vampirism.

Written in 1897, Stoker's novel introduces the iconic character of
the vampire Count Dracula. Through a series of letters and diary
entries, the novel tells the story of Dracula's attempt to move
from Transylvania to England, and the battle between Dracula and a
small group of men and women led by Professor Abraham Van Helsing.
Although Stoker did not invent the vampire, he defined its modern
form as we know it today.

Restless Classics presents Bram Stoker's gothic masterpiece of
horror, Dracula, gorgeously illustrated by Kaitlin Chan. Since its
original publication in 1897, Dracula has spoken aloud some of our
deepest cultural anxieties: fear of sexuality, xenophobia,
homophobia, and distrust of The Other. One of the most culturally
recognizable and pervasive characters ever written, Stoker's Count
Dracula is immensely more terrifying than the familiar caped and
fanged representation we have come to know. The Count's terror lies
not solely in his deadly bloodlust, but also in his harrowing
ability to hide his malfeasance behind power and privilege. When
Jonathan Harker unearths Count Dracula's (un)deadly secret, he
unwittingly starts a war between good and evil with disastrous
repercussions. The innocent Lucy Westenra falls prey to his curse,
Mina Harker narrowly escapes a vicious transformation, and the
indefatigable Abraham Van Helsing risks life and afterlife to
defeat his archnemesis. A masterpiece of gothic horror, Dracula is
a resonant, terrifying contemplation of the unknown and cautionary
reminder that evil doesn't always announce itself with fangs and
coffins, it lurks within the normal and the mundane, just waiting
to be uncovered.
'I knew the site of the hut and the hill behind it up which I had
rushed, and in the flickering glow the eyes of the rats still shone
with a sort of phosphorescence.' Beyond the genre-defining
influence of Dracula, Bram Stoker was also a master of the short
story form. This new collection of the author’s tales represents
his diverse interests in the macabre and uncanny, ranging from the
hallucinatory and dreamlike in ‘The Shadow Builder’ and ‘In
the Valley of the Shadow’ to the more overtly horrifying in the
mini- masterpieces of ‘The Judge’s House’ and ‘The Burial
of the Rats’. Alongside acknowledged classics of the horror short
story canon, this new volume also includes obscurities such as the
darkly comic ‘Old Hoggen: A Mystery’ and the morbid fairy tale
‘The Castle of the King’ to reflect the full brilliance of the
legendary writer.
Far, far away, there is a beautiful Country which no human eye has
ever seen in waking hours. Under the Sunset it lies, where the
distant horizon bounds the day, and where the clouds, splendid with
light and color, give a promise of the glory and beauty that
encompass it. Sometimes it is given to us to see it in dreams. This
Country is the Land Under the Sunset. This is the story of that
Country, and what happened when evil came to abide there. It is a
story all of us must hear.
Bram Stoker is of course best known for his novel Dracula which was
published in 1897. The novel set the standard for gothic horror
fiction and has never been surpassed. In this Omnibus edition are
five novels and a book of short stories. Prepare to be terrified:
Dracula (1897), The Jewel of Seven Stars (1903), The Man (aka: The
Gates of Life) (1905), The Lady of the Shroud (1909), The Lair of
the White Worm (aka: The Garden of Evil) (1911), Dracula's Guest
and Other Weird Stories (1914), The Dualitists (1887)
