Diener & Diener Architects, based in Basel and Berlin and one of Switzerland's leading contemporary firms, have had a special focus on residential architecture throughout its 40 years of existence. The origins of the work are based in the previous studio of Marcus Diener, founded in 1942 and joined in 1976, and taken over entirely in 1980, by his son Roger Diener. This new monograph documents comprehensively this 'recherche patiente' of four decades. It discusses 30 realised designs and unbuilt proposals that exemplify Diener & Diener's philosophy, based on their characteristics and individual urban context. Illustrated with photographs, floor and site plans as well as archival images and plans, and drawing on the firms archive and Roger Diener's collected lectures, the authors investigate the typological design process on which each project is based. Diener & Diener update and adapt fundamental types to the requirements and restraints of each new task. The consistency of this approach constitutes the significance of their work in contemporary housing.

From a watch to a pavilion, from urban furniture to infrastructure, from landscape design to apartment buildings: since the founding of Atelier Bonnet in the year 2000, the work of Pierre and Mireille Bonnet, covering a wide range of themes and scales, is conceived in a spirit of interaction and complicity. In the face of such a diversity of works, the monograph concentrates on a series of exemplary residential buildings, which document the skillful handling of this fundamental building task. In their most recent works, the architects have also occupied themselves intensively with the use of exposed concrete and with questions of tectonics. The resulting sculptural design and the abstract language of these objects provide further examples of a highly sensitive architecture, with an undeniable artistic dimension.

Renato Salvi (b. 1956) completed his studies at the Eidgenossische Technische Hochschule (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in Zurich and at Sapienza University in Rome, and served as assistant professor under Flora Ruchat and Vincent Mangeat. In 1998, he started his own architectural firm in Delemont, the capital of the newly created Swiss canton of Jura. His design for the Transjurane A 16 highway has received international attention and recognition for the uncompromisingly contemporary and at the same time subtle way that its concrete bridges, tunnel entrances, and ventilation structures contrast with and accentuate the wild beauty of the Jurassic landscape. Other chapters of this first-ever monograph on the Swiss Italian architect document a selection of his remarkable single-family houses, school buildings, and renovations. Editor Bruno Marchand is a professor at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne).

Descombes Rampini's projects are prime examples of the skillful, spatial combination of architecture and landscape architecture. In texts, drawings, models, and photographs, this monograph presents more than 45 completed projects and unbuilt designs from the last fifteen years. The publication covers all scales, ranging from spatial planning and urban planning to individual engineering structures. For the Place Simon Goulart project, completed in 2013, large wooden lounging fixtures were installed to create an atmospheric city square where visitors can relax and linger in the heart of Geneva. Turbinenplatz - the largest city square in Zurich - is a surprising design that plays with the contrast between minimalist design and a light show at night. In the ongoing renaturalizing of the Aire Canal in Geneva, which began in 2001, the architects have gradually created a natural landscape and recreational space on a four-kilometer long, strip of landscape. Outside of Switzerland, the architects are redesigning the banks of the Saône in Lyon, and are planning the new park, "Jardins d'Éole" in Paris. All of the projects demonstrate the design sensibility and the vast experience of Julien Descombes and Marco Rampini.

In Neuchatel, Hauptstadt des gleichnamigen Schweizer Kantons, wird nach dem Masterplan des Architekturburos bauart (Bern, Neuchatel, Zurich) seit 1990 eine 50 000 m(2) grosse Industriebrache nach den Grundsatzen der Nachhaltigkeit uberbaut. Im Mai 2009 wird mit der Eroeffnung des markanten Baus, welches Konservatorium und Verwaltungsfachhochschule beherbergt, die zweite Phase abgeschlossen. Das Quartier Ecoparc schafft eine innovative, radikal moderne stadtebauliche Verbindung zwischen dem Bahnhofsareal und der historisch gewachsenen alteren Stadt. Bemerkenswert sind die exemplarische Verdichtung, die gekonnte Integration der oekonomischen, oekologischen, sozialen Faktoren und die architektonische Qualitat der beiden Hochschul-Neubauten sowie der grossmassstablichen Wohnuberbauung. The second phase of the project is due to conclude in May 2009 with the opening of the distinctive structure that will house the conservatory and school of administration. Quartier Ecoparc creates a radical and innovative modern city-planning connection between the area surrounding the railroad station and the historic and organic older city. The development stands out for its exemplary density; its skillful integration of economic, ecological, and social factors; and the high architectural caliber of the two new university structures and the large residential development. Marchand documents and analyzes all aspects of this model neighborhood development, which merits comparison with the best international examples, including the neighborhoods Vauban in Freiburg/Breisgau and BedZED in London.
