The Georg Buchner Yearbook, Volume 12, contains 16 essays dealing
mainly with the Hessische Landbote, the dramatic work, Buchner s
correspondence and the reception of his work in the 20th century.
The themes examined here include the rhetorical strategy of the
pamphlet, Buchner s relationship with his contemporaries Ludwig
Borne and Karl Gutzkow, Buchner s modernity which is also expressed
in his use of metaphor, the circumstances of the inclusion of his
works in the German theater repertoire and his productive reception
by authors such as Max Frisch and Volker Braun."
This work looks at the Philipps-UniversitAt, Marburg, an
institution influenced by national conservatism in the first half
of the 20th century, in a study of the functionality and continuity
of an academic elite spanning different political systems. The
essays address questions concerning the institution's history,
biographies and history of methods in disciplines heavily
influenced by ideology, such as German studies, art history,
musicology and European ethnology. Particular attention has been
paid to the connection between academic work, membership in parties
and organizations, political activities and careers of those at the
university.
This volume provides a chronological survey of the complex
development of the mental illness of J.M.R. Lenz as it manifested
itself between autumn 1777 and early 1778. Much greater accuracy is
achieved in connection with the well-known events in question
thanks to the 150 documents quoted, a mine of information for all
those interested in the course taken by Lenz' illness. The volume
opens with a chronology outlining the sequence of the relevant
events. An annex contains picture material, an index of places and
a name index with biographical data.
