Die vielgestaltigen Prozesse bei Herzkrankheiten, wie die funktionellen Storungen und die koronare Herzkrankheit, erfordern multimodale, interaktionistische Forschungsstrategien, die die biologischen, psychologischen und sozialen Faktoren integrieren. In diesem Buch werden die noch vorrangig anzutreffenden einseitigen medizinischen und psychologischen Betrachtungsweisen bei verschiedenen Erkrankungen des kardiovaskularen Systems einer kritischen Analyse unterzogen und neue Forschungsperspektiven diskutiert. Behandelt werden dabei konkrete kardiologische Aufgabenstellungen, wie funktionelle kardiovaskulare Erkrankungen, Herzinfarkt, Herzkatheterismus, Angioplastie und Herzoperationen. Die mehrdimensionale Betrachtungsweise soll dazu beitragen, klinisch inadaquate "Vereinseitigungen" zu uberwinden, wie sie die Betrachtungen der klinischen Manifestation der KHK von der nur pathophysiologischen Seite bzw. der Herzneurose von der nur pathopsychologischen Seite darstellen.
