Sports in Africa reflect a complex, colonial history in which
recent democratic changes have set out to redistribute wealth,
reclaim notions of an African heritage and celebrate diversity.
With a growing need to discuss and analyse issues, images and
controversies with relevance to both the African and South African
contexts, a detailed introduction to the sociology of sport is
provided within this, the southern African edition of Sports in
society: issues and controversies. This adaptation of the American
and international editions provides a meaningful framework and
depth of sociological issues, theories, concepts and sporting
practices in Africa, and then also particularly South Africa.
Inevitably, there are many similarities within this framework to
the original text, and it therefore still forms the basis of
exploring the dynamic relationship between sports, culture and
society. Contents include the following: Diverse sport histories
and political dispensations; Knowledge and theories about sports in
society; Gender and ideological change; Race and race relations;
Economic realities and inequalities; Global trends and
affiliations; Media and sports relations; Sports for the future;
Sports and development. Sports in society is the definitive text
for learning the sociology of sport in context, with extensive
revisions so that students in Africa will find the content relevant
and understandable in terms of their experiences.
The vulnerability of water resources due to climate change and
human activities is globally increasing. The phenomenon of
hydrological change is complicated because of the combinations and
interactions between natural climate fluctuation, global warming
and human activities including changes in land utilization. The
impact areas of hydrological changes are also not only within the
basin, but reach to the ocean through coastal water exchanges. This
book presents contributions focused on integrated water management
from headwater to the ocean in a time of climate change and
increasing population.
This text examines the environmental setting and resulting
phosphorites that formed during the Miocene, one of the major and
most recent phosphogenic periods throughout the geological record.
Sedimentary phosphate deposits (phosphorites) are of major
commercial significance, being one of the world's most important
non-renewable resources, and essential in the manufacture of
phosphate fertilizers and phosphate based chemicals. An
oceanographic perspective is provided by investigations of modern
oceanic environments where phosphorites are presently forming.
Together, the geologic and marine approaches provide a complete
outlook on this important mineral resource. This is the third of
four planned reference volumes that together will cover the
achievements of the International Geological Correlation Programme
Project 156 (Phosphates) during the ten years of the project's
existence. As with the previous volumes, this will form an
essential work of reference for geologists and mining engineers
interested in the search for, and exploitation of, phosphate rock
deposits.
Oxford Practical Teaching: Physical Education for Primary Schools
is now available for Life Skills and Life Orientation teachers in
Grades 4 to 7. The book provides practical support to teachers in
making their own equipment and adapting their PE lessons to suit
learners' individual needs. Oxford Practical Teaching: Physical
Education for Primary Schools is the ideal how-to guide for
Physical Education as prescribed by the CAPS Life Skills and Life
Orientation curricula.
WebRTC, Web Real-Time Communications, is revolutionizing the way
web users communicate, both in the consumer and enterprise worlds.
WebRTC adds standard APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and
built-in real-time audio and video capabilities and codecs to
browsers without a plug-in. With just a few lines of JavaScript,
web developers can add high quality peer-to-peer voice, video, and
data channel communications to their collaboration, conferencing,
telephony, or even gaming site or application.
New for the Third Edition
The third edition has an enhanced demo application which now shows
the use of the data channel for real-time text sent directly
between browsers. Also, a full description of the browser media
negotiation process including actual SDP session descriptions from
Firefox and Chrome. Hints on how to use Wireshark to monitor WebRTC
protocols, and example captures are also included. TURN server
support for NAT and firewall traversal is also new.
This edition also features a step-by-step introduction to WebRTC,
with concepts such as local media, signaling, and the Peer
Connection introduced through separate runnable demos.
Written by experts involved in the standardization effort, this
book contains the most up to date discussion of WebRTC standards in
W3C and IETF. Packed with figures, example code, and summary
tables, this book is the ultimate WebRTC reference.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS
The purpose of this study is to examine a proposal to utilize
biological weapons systems in present day military situations. The
study is developed around the question: why not employ biological
weapons systems, now?
