The world and humanity are changing at an unprecedented rate. This
book explores the processes that underlie this changing but
coherent canvas. What is fueling them? What is driving them? Can we
control them? Mankind has always found ways to order life so as to
reduce uncertainty and has sought to enhance the wellbeing of
individuals, peoples and nations. In the modern and postmodern
world, business and enterprise play a big role. Their tendency
towards globalization needs to be understood and harnessed, not
opposed out of hand or wished away, particularly because the
tendency has not yet fully worked itself out. For sound
understanding it is necessary to avoid seeing the issues through
the eyes of one particular discipline. Hence this book also draws
on material from history, anthropology, development economics, ICT,
sociology and political science to help the reader gain insight
into the processes that are occurring. It provides a signpost
towards a new dynamic, in an increasingly integrated world, in
which we observe an emergent form of globalization affecting the
planet as a whole and the future of the people on it.
This book looks at the complexity of knowledge. It takes into
account diverse disciplines such as economics, social sciences,
international business, and organization studies. The authors focus
on knowledge internationally from a macro to a more micro level,
from the state to households, from knowledge production to
knowledge consumption, lifting the veil on knowledge complexities.
By making the complexities more transparent, the authors enrich
readers' understanding and illuminate their perception of knowledge
as a key factor in the development of the twenty-first century
world.
Volatility in Korean Capital Markets summarizes the Korean experience of volatile capital flows, analyzes the economic consequences, evaluates the policy measures adopted, and suggests new measures for the future.

Effective medium theory dates back to the early days of the theory of electricity. Faraday 1837 proposed one of the earliest models for a composite metal-insulator dielectric, and around 1870 Maxwell and later Garnett (1904) developed models to describe a composite or mixed material medium. The subject has been developed considerably since and while the results are useful for predicting materials performance, the theory can also be used in a wide range of problems in physics and materials engineering. This book develops the topic of effective medium theory by bringing together the essentials of both the static and the dynamical theory. Electromagnetic systems are thoroughly dealt with, as well as related areas such as the CPA theory of alloys, liquids, the density functional theory etc, with applications to ultrasonics, hydrodynamics, superconductors, porous media and others, where the unifying aspects of the effective medium concept are emphasized. In this new second edition two further chapters have been added to deal with the theory of electrolytes and the exciting frontiers in electromagnetic and related areas of cloaking research all from the perspective of effective medium theory. In addition, a new appendix with notes on the example problems makes this an ideal graduate level text book and research reference source.
