This book chronicles the rearing of an African-American child in
the "Upsouth" during the 1950s and 1960s, and his experiences as an
adult in another world-the F.B.I. The author walks the reader
through many harrowing experiences; several nearly fatal, growing
up in St. Louis and also with the F.B.I. His life with the F.B.I.
will take you through the "urban jungles" of several U.S. cities to
the tropical rainforests and islands of the Caribbean. The author
details his personal experiences with segregation coupled with
lessons taught by his family and older friends. Highlighted early
in the book is the author's controversial admission to college at
the age of eighteen. This book focuses on family history lessons
taught by his elders whom he used as a guide for his education, and
his career in law enforcement. The author highlights the
controversy he caused in his family, when he defied his parents'
wishes, and joined the F.B.I in 1979. His fascinating career covers
21 1/2 years of complex federal investigations and dangerous
undercover operations. The author sums up his experiences and
career with the F.B.I. by examing the differences between him and
scores of criminals he arrested over the years. After reading this
book, you will discover the values of strong parents, knowledge of
one's history, and thanking The Almighty everyday.
This book consists of invited reviews written by world-renowned
experts on the subject of the outskirts of galaxies, an upcoming
field which has been understudied so far. These regions are faint
and hard to observe, yet hide a tremendous amount of information on
the origin and early evolution of galaxies. They thus allow
astronomers to address some of the most topical problems, such as
gaseous and satellite accretion, radial migration, and merging. The
book is published in conjunction with the celebration of the end of
the four-year DAGAL project, an EU-funded initial training network,
and with a major international conference on the topic held in
March 2016 in Toledo. It thus reflects not only the views of the
experts, but also the scientific discussions and progress achieved
during the project and the meeting. The reviews in the book
describe the most modern observations of the outer regions of our
own Galaxy, and of galaxies in the local and high-redshift
Universe. They tackle disks, haloes, streams, and accretion as
observed through deep imaging and spectroscopy, and guide the
reader through the various formation and evolution scenarios for
galaxies. The reviews focus on the major open questions in the
field, and explore how they can be tackled in the future. This book
provides a unique entry point into the field for graduate students
and non-specialists, and serves as a reference work for researchers
in this exciting new field.

The intersections of aging, media, and culture are under-explored
given trends in population aging, rapid increases in the mediation
of everyday life, and the growing cultural significance of media
consumption at the global level. This book brings together an
international collection of critical scholars, both
well-established and up-and-coming, from the various academic
disciplines that share a common interest in the future study of
aging and media. This anthology of original articles integrates
aging theory and media studies through a study of core issues
including the media's influence on the construction of "old age,"
the reciprocal influence of aging on media industries, age-based
identities in a mediated world, issues of gender and sexuality in
an aging society, and the practical implications of a more
integrated approach between the two fields. The chapters explore
the intersections between aging and media in the realms of
advertising/marketing, television, film, music, celebrity and
social media, among others.
This collection explores the ways in which traumatic experience
becomes a part of public memory. It explores the premise that
traumatic events are realities; they happen in the world, not in
the fantasy life of individuals or in the narrative frames of our
televisions and cinemas.
Security Analysis, Portfolio Management, and Financial Derivatives
integrates the many topics of modern investment analysis. It
provides a balanced presentation of theories, institutions,
markets, academic research, and practical applications, and
presents both basic concepts and advanced principles. Topic
coverage is especially broad: in analyzing securities, the authors
look at stocks and bonds, options, futures, foreign exchange, and
international securities. The discussion of financial derivatives
includes detailed analyses of options, futures, option pricing
models, and hedging strategies. A unique chapter on market indices
teaches students the basics of index information, calculation, and
usage and illustrates the important roles that these indices play
in model formation, performance evaluation, investment strategy,
and hedging techniques. Complete sections on program trading,
portfolio insurance, duration and bond immunization, performance
measurements, and the timing of stock selection provide real-world
applications of investment theory. In addition, special topics,
including equity risk premia, simultaneous-equation approach for
security valuation, and Ito's calculus, are also included for
advanced students and researchers.
Can an American professor and Chinese activist students change
Chinese history? In mid-April 1989, in the days leading up to the
infamous Tiananmen Square Massacre, former US Marine Dan Norton was
finishing up his year as a professor at Shaanxi Teachers
University. Little did he know that in two weeks' time, he would be
sought out by the police under threat of Chinese prison. Accused of
engaging in espionage and harboring a fugitive, Dan struggles to
balance his military training with his newfound Buddhist practice.
Should he bow out of this fight by returning to America—or risk
his life by standing with his students? Meanwhile, university
students Song Yingying and her boyfriend Gao Mingyue both disobey
their fathers' strict orders to avoid all political activity. Their
secret poster campaigns swiftly escalate, and before they know it
they're leading demonstrations, too. Touching on the
complexities of ethnic and intergenerational conflicts in China at
the time, along with the politics, Eclipse of the Bright Moon
follows the paths of a professor and his students through the
difficult and dangerous choices that could usher in a brighter hope
. . . or end their very lives.
This engrossing book takes readers through the entire investigative
process of five murder cases, with Dr. Lee as the gruesome tour
guide. The cases include the O.J. Simpson case and the death of an
Eastern Airlines pilot. Illustrations.
News Professor Cheng-Few Lee ranks #1 based on his publications in
the 26 core finance journals, and #163 based on publications in the
7 leading finance journals (Source: Most Prolific Authors in the
Finance Literature: 1959-2008 by Jean L Heck and Philip L Cooley
(Saint Joseph's University and Trinity University). Based on the
authors' extensive teaching, research and business experiences,
this book reviews, discusses and integrates both theoretical and
practical aspects of financial planning and forecasting. The book
is divided into six parts: Information and Methodology for
Financial Analysis, Alternative Finance Theories and Their
Application, Capital Budgeting and Leasing Decisions, Corporate
Policies and Their Interrelationships, Short-term Financial
Decisions, Financial Planning and Forecasting, and Overview. The
theories used in this book are pre-Modigliani-Miller Theorem,
Modigliani-Miller Theorem, Capital Asset Pricing Model and
Arbitrage Pricing Theory, and Option Pricing Theory. The
interrelationships among these theories are carefully analyzed.
Meaningful real-world examples of using these theories are
discussed step-by-step, with relevant data and methodology.
Alternative planning and forecasting models are also used to show
how the interdisciplinary approach is helpful in making meaningful
financial management decisions.
