Robert C. O'Brien's collection of essays on U.S. national security
and foreign policy, with a forward by Hugh Hewitt, is a wake up
call to the American people. The world has become steadily more
dangerous under President Obama's "lead from behind" foreign
policy. The Obama Administration's foreign policy has emboldened
our adversaries and disheartened our allies. Indeed, Obama's
nuclear deal with Iran is a 1938 moment. At the same time, the U.S.
military has been cut and risks returning to the hollow force days
of the 1970s. O'Brien lays out the challenges and provides the
common sense "peace through strength" solutions that will allow the
next president to make America great again.
The Parrish Art Museum, on Long Island's East End, holds one of the
largest public collections of William Merritt Chase in the United
States: over forty paintings and works on paper, and a wealth of
archival photographs and documents. This new volume features 30 of
the artist's most important paintings and works on paper, including
his early "Still Life with Fruit" (1871), works from the famous New
York park scenes series, notably "Park in Brooklyn" (c. 1887);
major studio paintings from the 1880s, such as "The Blue Kimono"
(c. 1888); and of course, the paintings made during his summers in
Long island's Shinnecock Hills, including "The Bayberry Bush" (c.
1895). It also includes many family photographs taken during summer
spent in Shinnecock Hills, Long Island, where Chase founded, and
taught at, the Summer School of Art. There are essays covering the
key influences on Chase's art and his early career in Munich and
his work in Paris and Madrid.

A powerful post-apocalyptic novel in which nuclear war has
devastated America. Z FOR ZACHARIAH by Robert C. O'Brien is one of
The Originals from Penguin - iconic, outspoken, first. Ann Burden
has been living alone in a valley for over a year - until Loomis, a
scientist in a radiation-proof suit, arrives. She hopes they will
be companions but his behaviour towards her becomes increasingly
threatening as he attacks her and then cuts off her food supply and
tries to bring her under his control. Although there may be no one
else alive, Ann steals his suit and leaves the valley in search of
humanity. The Originals are the pioneers of fiction for young
adults. From political awakening, war and unrequited love to
addiction, teenage pregnancy and nuclear holocaust, The Originals
confront big issues and articulate difficult truths. The collection

Smith, Postcards from No Man's Land - Aidan Chambers, After the
First Death - Robert Cormier, Dear Nobody - Berlie Doherty, The

Is anyone out there?
Ann Burden is sixteen years old and completely alone. The world as
she once knew it is gone, ravaged by a nuclear war that has taken
everyone from her. For the past year, she has lived in a remote
valley with no evidence of any other survivors.
But the smoke from a distant campfire shatters Ann's solitude.
Someone else is still alive and making his way toward the valley.
Who is this man? What does he want? Can he be trusted? Both excited
and terrified, Ann soon realizes there may be worse things than
being the last person on Earth.
The Fifth Edition of the Perspectives book continues the focus of
providing students, practitioners, and observers with insight into
the ever-changing parameters of laws pertaining to family structure
and responsibilities. Specifically, this book addresses, among
other topics, nonmarital cohabitation, establishment of paternity,
premarital and marital contracting, assisted reproductive
technology, marriage, and divorce. Recent cases and federal and
state statutes address specific topics such as surrogacy
agreements, division of marital and nonmarital property upon
dissolution of cohabitation or divorce, child support guidelines,
and establishing custody rights through parenting agreements or
what is considered in the best interest of the child. And there is
a continuation of discussion illustrating equal protection, liberty
interest, and free exercise in the context of same-sex
relationships, the safety of partners and children, and termination
of parental rights and possible adoption of minors. The
Perspectives book seeks to provide the reader with a grasp of what
is currently the law and a glimpse into where the law may be going.
The main intent of this book is to guide the reader to practical,
relevant skills and concepts so that they will feel comfortable and
confident leading and participating in teams. All too frequently
safety and quality is compromised in healthcare organizations
because of poor communication and an inability to successfully
manage conflict. This book provides knowledge and skills associated
with facilitating and leading teams within healthcare
organizations. It provide ideas, strategies and tools for
healthcare leaders (administrative, nursing, physician, other
clinical) to create and lead teams that have a learning
orientation, have the ability to self-correct, and get exceptional
results. This book gives leaders insight into new thinking, shows
how to apply this knowledge to their teaming efforts. Ultimately,
creating teams with a learning orientation will provide superior
healthcare outcomes, both from a quality standpoint and a service
standpoint. Readers will find ideas that they can implement and
will challenge some existing assumptions and provide newer ways of
thinking about teams within healthcare organizations. This book is
written for those who recognize the importance of the task at hand,
understand that yesterday's models may not be as relevant, and who
understand the critical role of teams and that we are often falling
short in teaming efforts.

This book explores the phenomenon of computer technology talent
(CTT) in the field of gifted education. Based on Feldman's
co-incidence theory, four time frames have crystallized at the end
of the 21st century to produce conditions ripe for this talent to
emerge. Within this framework, the question was asked: "What
cognitive and affective qualities and life events mark the
development of CTT?" Using qualitative study methods, interview
data were collected from four different age groups and time
periods. Findings are discussed in terms of developmental patterns
and recurring trends, reflected in the participants' histories with
computing, environmental support, and pivotal peak experiences.
Results provide evidence that CTT should be recognized as a
distinct talent area within the domain of gifted studies. Some
suggestions for educational policy and practice are made for
teachers and parents on how to deal with these talented children
emerging from the digital age. This book is addressed to
professionals in Gifted Education such as teachers, facilitators
and curriculum designers. It is also directed towards researchers
in Talent Development, Gifted Education and Communications.

"John M. 'Frosty' Anderson was one of the National Audubon
Society's great 'living legends.' . . . No one has done more for
wildlife than this modest man with the best sense of humor ever to
come down the pike." --from the Foreword National Audubon Society
sanctuaries across the United States preserve the unique
combinations of plants, climates, soils, and water that endangered
birds and other animals require to survive. Their success stories
include the recovery of the common and snowy egrets, wood storks,
Everglade kites, puffins, and sandhill cranes, to name only a few.
In this book, Frosty Anderson describes the development of fifteen
NAS sanctuaries from Maine to California and from the Texas coast
to North Dakota. Drawn from the newsletter Places to Hide and Seek,
which he edited during his tenure as Director/Vice President of the
Wildlife Sanctuary Department of the NAS, these profiles offer a
personal, often humorous look at the daily and longer-term
activities involved in protecting bird habitats. Collectively, they
record an era in conservation history in which ordinary people,
without benefit of Ph.D.'s, became stewards of the habitats in
which they had lived all their lives. It's a story worth
preserving, and it's entertainingly told here by the man who knows
it best.
