A great way to introduce children to classical music.
America's first Children's Poet Laureate has written all-new verses
to accompany the composer Camille Saint-Saens's "The Carnival of
the Animals, " and the illustrator of the Harry Potter books has
turned these rollicking rhymes into a picture-book fun fest.
Included is a CD of the music and of Jack Prelutsky reading the
verses. A note to parents and teachers by Judith Bachleitner, head
of the music department at the prestigious Rudolf Steiner School in
New York City, suggests ways preschoolers can act out the
music--tromp like an elephant, hop like a kangaroo, glide like a
swan--or, for older children, be creatively inspired by this joyful
work.
A series of essays on reactions and emotional responses to music.
Splendid compilation features a variety of the composer's best
piano works, all reproduced from authoritative sources. Taking its
title from the popular orchestral work "Danse Macabre" (presented
here in the brilliant arrangement by Liszt), this collection also
includes "Allegro appassionato," "Album" (consisting of six
pieces), "Rhapsodie d'Auvergne," "Theme and Variations," plus six
etudes, three waltzes, and six etudes for left hand alone.

This oratorio by a youthful Camille Saint-Saens was first performed
by soloists, chorus and small string orchestra for the 1858
Christmas service at the glise de la Madeleine in Paris. The
composer's colleague Eugene Gigout arranged the vocal score, which
is presented here in a digitally-enhanced reprint of the one issued
by G. Schirmer early in the 20th century. As with the other titles
in this series, measure numbers have been added and rehearsal
systems have been checked for compliance with the widely available
orchestral parts sold by Kalmus. The large A4 size is quite
convenient for soloists, choruses, and directors alike.
Collection of ballets making up the Gala des Étoiles of 2015. David
Coleman conducts the Teatro alla Scala in performances of, amongst
others, 'La Rose Malade' by Gustav Mahler, 'The Dying Swan' by
Camille Saint-Saëns and Aram Khatchaturian's 'Spartacus'.
This is a wonderful collection of popular and some less well-known
pieces. It contains three movements from The Carnival of the
Animals, the slow movement and the famous Maestoso section from the
'Organ' Symphony (No. 3), the meltingly beautiful aria 'Softly
awakes my heart' from the opera Samson and Delilah, the opening
section of the Danse Macabre, and several other pieces illustrating
the range of Saint-Saens' compositional style. All the pieces are
immensely playable and have been chosen to suit the needs of both
church and concert organists.
