VI Der Weisstannenkrebs war mir ubrigens schon vor diesen Aufnahmen eine wohlbekannte Erscheinung, denn ich war als Revieramtsassistent 1883/84 in dem jetzt von mir verwalteten Revier Adelberg auf dem Schurwald thatig, das zu uber 1/3 aus gemischten, 1 z. Th. auch reinen Weisstannenbestanden besteht ) und 1884/86 in dem grossten wurttembergischen Revier Herrenalb (Schwarzwald), in welchem die Weisstanne durchaus die Hauptholzart in meist annahernd reinen Bestanden bildet. Hier bot sich reichlich Ge- legenheit, die Krebskrankheit zu beobachten, und ich habe in jener Zeit manches Hundert Krebsstamme bei den Durchforstungen aus- gezeichnet und bei den Stammholzaufnahmen dem "Ausschuss" zugewiesen, soweit nicht die Krebsholzer in den "Anbruch" zu werfen waren. Auch spaterhin fand ich vom Forstamt Wildberg (im Schwarzwald) aus noch oft Veranlassung zu weiteren Beob- achtungen. So war denn jene Aufnahme der Weisstannenversuchsflachen eine willkommene Gelegenheit, der langst ins Auge gefassten, planmassigen Untersuchung des Weisstannenkrebses naher zu treten. Diese ist wohl nur bei den auf bestimmte, verhaltniss- massig kleine, Flachen der verschiedensten Wirthschaftsgebiete sich stutzenden Versuchsarbeiten moglich, denn man kommt in der taglichen Ausubung des forstlichen Berufs theils aus Mangel an Zeit und Hilfskraften 2) u. dgl. fiber eine gewisse Oberflachlichkeit und Aeusserlichkeit der Beobachtung selten hinaus unddie ortliche Gebundenheit lasst allgemeine Schlusse kaum zu. Zu erwahnen ist noch, dass ich zur Zeit jener Versuchsarbeiten von del' Litera- tur fiber den Krebs nul' das kannte, was Robert Hartig in seinem Lehrbuch der Baumkrankheiten 3) uber denselben mittheilt.
