En las ultimas dos decadas, diversos estudios cientificos han demostrado que un estilo de vida activo proporciona importantes beneficios en la salud. Como consecuencia de ello, ha sido promocionado ultimamente desde las autoridades publicas y otras organizaciones relacionadas con la salud, sin embargo, es necesario aclarar que no es simplemente la ejecucion de actividad fisica como se suele hacer, sino de ejercicio fisico, el cual implica la realizacion de movimientos corporales planificados y disenados especificamente para lograr un objetivo (llamese salud o deporte), organizando las cargas de trabajo de acuerdo a principios fisicos funcionales cientificamente validados de prescripcion del acondicionamiento fisico de forma progresiva de tal manera que mejore la condicion fisica-salud de quienes lo practiquen y evitando o reduciendo el riesgo de lesiones, lo cual para el presente trabajo se ha denominado Ejercicio Fisico Programado (EFP)."
