Each of eight writing workshops includes an introduction, list of materials, and five activities. Each activity lists three to five books to use when doing the lesson. The activities target basic skills such as using inventive and conventional spelling, writing in complete sentences, using proper sentence format, and properly forming and spacing letters. Many lessons provide students with the opportunity to illustrate, display, or share their work.
