Scotland has had a uniquely important military history over the
last five centuries. Conflict with England in the 16th century,
Jacobite rebellions in the 18th century, 20th-century defences and
the two world wars, as well as the Cold War, all resulted in
significant cartographic activity. In this book two map experts
explore the extraordinarily rich legacy of Scottish military
mapping, including fortification plans, reconnaissance mapping,
battle plans, plans of military roads and routeways, tactical maps,
plans of mines, enemy maps showing targets, as well as plans
showing the construction of defences. In addition to plans,
elevations and views, they also discuss unrealised proposals and
projected schemes. Most of the maps - some of them reproduced in
book form for the first time - are visually striking and
attractive, and all have been selected for the particular stories
they tell about both attacking and defending the country.

Think of the "First Wives Club" after menopause but before assisted
living, and you've got the Lemon Drop Martini Club. Constance,
Catherine and Cynthia are three women who've been best friends
forever. They're your average female baby boomers...sort of.
Constance is a retired CFO, Catherine is a syndicated columnist for
a large Denver newspaper, and Cynthia is the best nail tech and
hairstylist west of the Mississippi. These three mild mannered
"mature" women have lived fairly uneventful lives until Catherine
writes an expose about the head of the Denver Mafia that pisses him
off and he puts a contract out on her. What's a girl to do? Head
for the mountains and Grand Lake Village to hide out with her best
friends, that's what But thank God these ladies aren't your normal
baby boomers. They may have French manicures and highlighted hair,
but they have no fear, they're physically fit and they have really
cool tattoos. Just saying. Hiding out isn't all bad when there's
kayaking, hiking, boating around the lake in their Moomba, bellying
up to the bar at the Lariat Saloon for a Coors, or driving up to
the Grand Lake Lodge for a Lemon Drop Martini. But all that ends
when they find out the hit man has found their hideout. Watching
their backs and turning the tables on the would-be killer becomes
their top priority. Because dodging bullets can really wreck a
great hair day
Life on the Front Range of Colorado is never dull, especially with
a spunky vet and a really hot cowboy in the mix. Samantha Kendrick
is a large animal vet in her small hometown of Fairview, and happy
tending to her clients during the day and reading sizzling romance
novels at night. Until Cheyenne Wells comes back into her life.
Samantha and Cheyenne have known each other since first grade, but
it's been a tenuous relationship that started when he yanked her
ponytail and she punched him in the nose. Now Cheyenne is the head
trainer and manager of the largest horse ranch in the west, and
Samantha is called out to treat their prize stallion. Their reunion
ignites sparks of passion neither one is expecting. Though Sam
resists at first, Cheyenne's Native American magnetism draws her
into his life, with some help from her mom and fate. Before she
knows it Sam is drawn into a spidery web of evil. Together, Sam and
Cheyenne must work to solve the mystery before it turns deadly. It
couldn't get any worse for Sam, who up until then only pondered
mysteries like, "Do cowboys really go commando?" Humor, suspense,
and a little romance make this book a must read for anyone who
enjoys tales of intrigue and plot twists to the bitter end
